Thus far, the renovation of a run-down resort in the Bahamas has been the adventure of a lifetime for the Baeumlers – and fans have been on pins and needles to see what else is in store for the dynamic duo. While you have been watching Sarah on HGTV Canada for years, we thought we’d share a few things you might not know about this HGTV Canada star.

Musings on Motherhood
As a mom to four, Sarah likes to remember that her role as a parent is all about cultivating and supporting her children’s experiences and their personal growth. “It’s their path and their life,” she says. ” If they make choices we don’t agree with, that’s their path to forge on their own, and we have to respect that.”
Sibling Love
Although Sarah and Bryan are raising a big brood together, Sarah actually only grew up with one sibling. “I have one sister [and] I’m younger,” she says.
Sarah Knows About Disconnecting
Sarah knows the importance of disconnecting when on holidays, so you are in good hands if you make your way to the Baeumler’s Caerula Mar Club resort in Bahamas. “I remember two or three days into our trip [to the British Virgin Islands] we realized this was the first real trip that we completely disconnected from everything back home in Canada and really just engaged in complete relaxation,” she recalls. “It takes a few days to kind of unwind and come to realization that it’s OK to take the time for self-care.”
She Loves Yoga
Sarah enjoys yoga in all its various forms. “I think yoga [and] wellness is something that is important for the resort,” she says. “For me, it’s [about] relaxation – mental relaxation – especially on days when we’re filming. We all try to and capture a little time to ourselves.”

Fun in the Sun
Sarah loves the warm, sunny weather and has an old favourite that many snowbirds are familiar with. “For me, it’s Florida. When we go to Islamorada with our family we take all the kids and rent a house. We absolutely love it. It’s like our home away from home.” Pictured here in the fourth season of Island of Byran, the Baeumlers are officially going to make Florida their home base. Dreams really do come true!
Coffee, Anyone?
Fans might be surprised that the TV star eschews coffee entirely. “I don’t drink [it]”, she says. “No coffee at all – ever. Never had a sip in my life. My parents never drank it. My mom was a tea drinker, so I’ll have a cup of tea [sometimes]. But I get my caffeine from diet pop – that’s my bad vice.”
A Little Inspiration
When it comes to curling up with a good book, Sarah leans more towards feel-good reads. “I’ve been reading a lot of Malcolm Gladwell books lately, although I know some of them are a bit older,” she says. “But given our circumstances right now and where we are with our business, I’m going with more inspirational books.”
Drink up!
When asked about her favourite mixed drink, Sarah was quick to mention a tonic that was crafted in honour of the couple: the Bahamian Baeumler. It’s a rum-based concoction with a little orange and pineapple juice. If you want to taste you’ll have to visit the Caerula Mar Club…. but if you are staying local, you can try a Bahama Mama at your local watering hole.

A Taste of the Tropics
With so much time spent in the Bahamas, it’s no surprise that Sarah’s favourite fruit is a natural tropical treat: pineapples!
Sweet Summer Treats
When it comes to desserts, Sarah loves a sweet treat with a fruity and refreshing flavour.
Her favourite indulgence on a hot summer day? Raspberry Lemon-Lime Sherbert from Kawartha Dairy.
She’s a Godmother Now!
It turns out that the Baeumler’s youngest son, Lincoln, inadvertently set things in motion by forming close ties with some of the local Bahamian fishermen – specifically one who also had a large family. “Lincoln was just looking for a friend and it was within a few days that they found each other and then we got to know the whole family,” Sarah explains. “As time went by and we got closer and closer with them, one day they asked if I would be the godmother to Kiara.”
Her First Car
Although she couldn’t remember exactly, Sarah referenced a set of wheels she affectionately referred to as Little Blue. “It was a blue Honda Civic hatchback,” she says with a laugh. “Bryan and I drove it across the country together. That was the first one I bought myself. It was icy blue in colour, and it was very girly. Bryan looked fabulous driving it.”
Her First Job
When it comes to earning her keep, Sarah held down a common teen summertime job. “I was a camp counselor for years,” she says. “At a day camp [called] Camp Totoredaca.”
Her Hidden Talent
When she’s not renovating some beautiful new space, the Island of Bryan co-host loves spending time in the kitchen. In fact, she has a hidden talent: “I used to be a bartender at the Spaghetti Factory, so I can make a mean cocktail,” she laughs.
Don’t Call it Mellow Yellow
Her favourite colour is as bright as her sunny disposition. That’s right – Sarah’s favourite colour is yellow.
The One Thing She Can’t Live Without
Call her sentimental: “Apart from my family, [I couldn’t live without my] photo albums. We have one for each of our kids when they were babies,” she says. “It’s a book for each kid of their first year.”
Her Favourite Time of Year
When it comes to picking a favourite season, Sarah doesn’t hesitate with her answer: “Summer.” We can’t say we’re surprised, given all that warm weather they enjoy while filming Island of Bryan.
Favourite School Subject
Although this isn’t many people’s favourite subject, it turns out Sarah absolutely loved math growing up. Clearly she was destined to be a designer!
Rain, Rain Go Away
When it’s inclement weather, there’s nothing Sarah loves more than cozying up to watch a good movie. “We have an old-school popcorn machine, so we curl up in the family room and make movie-style popcorn and watch movies with kids,” she says. And what about a kid-free rainy day? “If I didn’t have my kids at home, you’d find me at the mall. I am a shopaholic!”
