We know him as the charismatic co-host and friendly rival of Jillian Harris on the hit HGTV Canada series Love it or List Vancouver, but there’s much more than meets the eye with this West Coast realtor. Here are 16 fun facts about Todd Talbot you probably didn’t know.
Where it All Started
Although he was born in Vancouver, Todd moved around a lot as a child. He lived in a whopping eight different houses and went to six different schools!

Embarrassing Nickname
Todd’s unusual nickname is none other than Woddy, which he inherited from his father (pictured here). “Not glamorous at all, but it kinda stuck,” he says. “From there, I called my dad Waddy!”
From Heartthrob to Host
Todd got his big break in the early ’90s when he was cast as teen heartthrob Matt Walker in the hit series Fifteen. He appeared in 65 episodes of the show before moving to London, England where he continued to study acting.
What He Loves Most About His Job
His favourite thing about Love It or List It Vancouver is being lucky enough to shoot in Vancouver and getting to work with co-star Jillian Harris. “We have fun together; we laugh and joke and our crew is great,” he says. “The thing about the show that resonates around the world is that everyone deals with these issues all the time: Should we move? Are we living in the right place? What should we renovate?”
He Bumps Into Families Who Appeared on the Show
It turns out, Todd is quite active in Vancouver’s charitable communities and, as a result, he runs into families who have appeared on Love it Or List it Vancouver. “I do a lot of charity work and some of [the former guest stars] come out and support and donate,” Todd tells us. “My kids also go to school with some of the homeowners. In fact, in episode one of season one, Brandon and Michelle, we’ve become very close with because our kids go to the same school.”
He Coined the Term “Right-Sizing”
Todd loves talking about “right-sizing”, a term he coined when trying to avoid references to downsizing. “I changed it from downsizing it because no one likes to think about sacrifice,” he tells us. “In the [fifth] season you’re going to see people go through this process. The world is moving towards a more sustainable model, a more affordable model and this idea that bigger homes are going to solve your problems is bullsh*t. To continue to put that pressure on people is really hard and then people carry these massive mortgages and they’re not happy. People tend to look at buying a house as the solution to a problem and then they create a lifestyle that they want. It’s not that way. That is a myth. You should create your lifestyle first and the space that you’re living in should support that.”
His (Other) Dream Job
If Todd Talbot wasn’t on Love It or List It Vancouver, what would he be doing? According to him, he would be an architect or renovating houses. “That’s what I love to do – renovate and design spaces, and create cool homes,” he says.
He’s Got The Moves
He’s trained as a classical dancer and is well-versed in jazz, ballet and tap. Here he is getting ready to perform in a ballet with his wife, Rebecca.
His Other Half
Todd has been married to actress, model and singer Rebecca Talbot since 2007. She has played lead roles in a number of major stage musicals, including Footloose and Sweeney Todd. She even had a small role as a young Melissa Scully on the hit sci-fi TV series The X-Files. Despite their hectic schedules, the couple makes sure they always make time for one another. “It’s important to manage your relationship with your wife and make sure that [your marriage] is still happy and functioning,” Todd tells us.
How They Met
Todd and Rebecca met during rehearsals for West Side Story at Vancouver’s Arts Club (she played the lead role of Maria). He proposed to her over the intercom aboard a WestJet flight headed to Toronto.
He Has Two Kids
Todd and Rebecca have two kids, Kesler and Ashlyn. On being a father, he says “Watching my son and daughter grow up and experience life overwhelms me with a joy that cannot be replaced and can’t be captured in words.”
His Biggest Fear
Todd is terrified of horror films! Yes, really! Everything from E.T. to Cabin Fever are too much for him to bear.
Biggest Pet Peeves
Though he admittedly has more than one, topping the list is noisy eaters. Todd can’t stand when his wife eats cereal and makes slurping sounds.
Favourite Foods
Todd is a big fan of anything savoury, especially Thai food. If he had to pick one favourite dish, it would be a (slightly) spicy green curry. Yum!
Top Trip
His stag took place in Las Vegas, of course. Describing that trip, Todd tells us, “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. Almost anything you can imagine happened.”
What’s His Sign?
Todd’s birth date (June 12) makes him a Gemini. Gemini’s are known for being expressive and quick-witted, two traits we think perfectly describe the Love It or List It personality.
