Filled with calming blue hues and soft, diffused light, this main floor makes you want to relax and stay for a visit. After living with a neon green kitchen for years, homeowners Kim and Kyle sought a neutral, airy space that still had personality. We kept the walls colour-free, but installed applied molding to add some architectural detail and visual interest. Using affordable MDF, we created floor-to-ceiling built-ins to house things like the TV, books and video games, and finished it off with a brilliant gas fireplace to be enjoyed on the sofa beneath cozy throws and pillows. In the kitchen, we reused the old cabinetry to create a more functional layout that included a beverage centre and island. The whole space is tied together with light, wide-plank floors, touches of brass and gold and plenty of comfortable seating, including an upholstered entry bench made from the home’s original fireplace mantle.
