15 Reasons to Visit PEC’s June Motel This Year

If you scrolled through Instagram at all this summer, you’ll have noticed, nestled between artsy snaps of Muskoka chairs at sunset and manicured hands brandishing charcoal ice cream cones, countless shots of a small but perfectly designed Prince Edward County retreat that quickly emerged as the season’s most popular mini-break destination. With its retro-fabulous wallpaper, neon signage and lashings of millennial pink, The June Motel is pure, unadulterated Insta-bait (and we mean that as a compliment). The weather may have cooled down, but the June is as hot as ever, so book your fall getaway now and get ready to luxuriate in those likes.

Owners, BFFs and wine aficionadas April Brown and Sarah Sklash bought the run-down property – formerly a fisherman’s motel known as the Sportsman – in 2016 and immediately set to work overhauling the space from top to bottom, imbuing it with heaps of modern-vintage charm. Now it’s a destination in its own right, and the ideal home base for a wine-fuelled PEC weekend.

With its black-and-white checkerboard floors, chic bar stools and gleaming pendant lights, the indoor/outdoor Wine Lobby is a stylish spot to linger over a glass (or three) of local vino.

Or nab a coveted seat on the buttery leather Wine Lobby couch, framed with ample greenery from The Parlour Studio and a pink neon sign that reads “Peace Love Wine.” Talk about words to live by.

Blessed with mild(ish) fall temps? Gather ’round the campfire for s’mores and a spot of socializing with your fellow June Motel guests. It’s not a real party until someone breaks out the acoustic guitar.

Catch up on your reading, listen to a podcast or simply soak up that soft autumn light in a classic white Solair chair; there’s a pair conveniently stationed outside each room for all your outdoor lounging needs.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the dreaminess of these pastel pink doors? It’s like the June is making its way down on our decor wishlist and ticking all the boxes. Attractive man not included with your booking, sadly.

When the interior is this stylish, who cares what it’s like outside? You might want to stay in bed all day just to admire your room’s cooler-than-cool rose gold lamps and Palm Springs-esque wallpaper (and we wouldn’t blame you one bit).

With its ample square footage, handy amenities like an in-room rosé bar and charcuterie boards (!) and multiple sleep spots – there are bunk beds and a sofa in addition to the queen bed pictured – the Rosé Suite is practically crying out for a girls’ weekend.

And that lush floral wallpaper? We’ve just died and gone to Insta-heaven.

Rosé season might be on hold until summer 2018 (cue quiet sobbing) but the clever neon signage and millennial pink walls in the Rosé Suite are year-round delights.

In the immortal words of Carrie Bradshaw: “Hello! I live here.” At least that’s what you can tell yourself for the duration of your stay in the dreamy Deluxe Wine Studio, which sleeps up to six people and comes complete with a kitchenette, dining table and fully stocked wine bar.

Honestly, the bathrobes alone might be worth the drive to the County (but here’s hoping they’ll also be available through the June’s soon-to-launch online shop).

The Classic room sleeps up to three and boasts a private balcony with a sunset-ready view of Picton Bay, but it’s this vintage peacock chair that’s got us itching to book asap.

OK, the Classic’s ultra-cute pink bathroom doesn’t hurt, either.
