LeBron James Spends $39M on a Beverly Hills Mansion With Hollywood History

Surrounded by lush greenery in the prestigious area known as Beverly Hills Post Office, the compound is located off lower Benedict Canyon and sits on 2.5 private acres in the mountains atop Beverly Hills.

LeBron James purchased the home from Lee Phillip Bell, widow of William Bell, creator of soap operas The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful. The couple reportedly undertook an extensive renovation to restore the sprawling Mediterranean-style compound to its former glory. The home was listed at $39 million, but it’s unclear if the NBA star paid the full asking price.

The expansive living room boasts a vaulted ceiling and exposed wood beams, with sliding glass doors opening to a patio with stunning panoramic views.

A carpeted library features built-in shelving used to showcase the former owner’s multiple Emmys and other awards, while a wet bar is tucked in the corner.

A comfortable screening room features a massive projection screen and a wood-burning fireplace – one of seven found throughout the home.

Built in the 1930s, the home was originally owned by actor Charles Boyer. When Boyer terminated his contract with Howard Hughes’ RKO Pictures in the 1940s, the deal included the studio buying out his interest in the property. While Hughes himself never lived there, he leased it to former girlfriend Katharine Hepburn, who lived there for several years during the peak of her career. The home went on to have a few non-famous owners before the Bells purchased it in 1986.

A regulation-sized tennis court includes a viewing pavilion and lighting to illuminate night games.

An oval-shaped swimming pool is equipped with a diving board. A spacious cabana, topped by terra cotta roof tiles, sits adjacent to the pool.

Perched atop a mountain, the home offers truly stunning views encompassing the entire Los Angeles basin, extending from the downtown skyline to the Pacific Ocean and the Santa Monica Mountains.

Multiple statues can be found throughout the compound, including this one guarding the front entrance to the home.

Once the home of Hollywood royalty and now the abode of NBA royalty, LeBron James’ new home includes two guest houses in addition to the main mansion, along with multiple entertaining areas – both indoor and outdoor – throughout.
