LOTTIE Candle with bergmont, lemon and vanilla

Our favourite way to transform the feel of our home in a flash? By lighting a candle, of course. Did you know that scent is strongly linked to our emotions and memories? That’s why, just like paint colours or house plants, a well-decorated home prioritizes the way it smells, too. So, when we had the opportunity to review the trending Alexandra Gater LOTTIE Candle, we just couldn’t resist. Read on for everything you need to know about this gorgeous candle that’s been all over social media.

First Impressions of the LOTTIE Candle

Alexandra Gater is the YouTube queen of renter-friendly upgrades and millennial-approved room makeovers. Full disclosure: I’ve been a loyal AG fan and subscriber for years. Just like all her channel’s videos, I loved her fresh and feminine transformation of the Cardea AuSet head office. And so when I first heard that she was collaborating on a candle with the clean beauty and wellness brand, I knew it was going to be stunning. I wasn’t disappointed.

The LOTTIE Candle comes in a darling pastel pink cardboard box. With gold foil-pressed text and terrazzo-inspired shapes in a pastel palette, this piece is the definition of eye candy. If you were gifting the LOTTIE Candle to a friend, you’d want to skip the wrapping paper and gift bag.

As for the product itself, the hand-poured soybean wax candle is made in a soothing sage green glass jar. Once finished, the votive itself still makes for a gorgeous addition to a decorative shelf or nightstand.

Alexandra Gater’s Candle is The Smell of Summer 2022

Combining notes of refreshing bergamot, citrusy grapefruit and warm vanilla, my first reaction to the scent was that the invigorating candle reminded me of a late sun-filled summer afternoon.

Before burning, the first note of the LOTTIE Candle has a warm spiced edge. You notice more of the bright grapefruit and the irresistible vanilla note within the first few hours of burning. According to the package, “LOTTIE will only get cozier with time.” I find that the candle has had a stress-relieving and mood-boosting effect so far.

My recommendation? Light this bright and sultry candle for everything from an intimate late August dinner party to a relaxing rainy day at the cottage.

All-Natural Ingredients

Over the past few years, I’ve become more conscious of avoiding harsh chemicals in my home. And when possible, the more natural a product, the better. I love that the LOTTIE candle has only five ingredients (including the cotton wick). Made with soybean wax, bergamont fruit oil, pink grapefruit essential oil and vanilla parfum, you’ll feel good knowing that this it’s not harmful to your health or the planet.

The Verdict

Although this collab has been named after Alexandra’s sweet cat Lottie, the scent is perfect for the dog days of summer. The candle evokes the feeling of “Dolce far Niente,” the famous Italian saying that means “the sweetness of doing nothing.”

It’s the fun and relaxing vibe I try to channel during all of my summer holidays. And just like a long-awaited vacation, this candle’s price tag can be seen as a bit of a splurge. But when I consider that it supports a woman-owned small Canadian business, smells incredible, has clean ingredients and has a burn time of up to 50 hours, I’m happy to indulge.
