Do you want to incorporate more greenery into your home but don’t know where to start? This DIY Origami hanging planter idea is an affordable way to add more natural elements to your decor. Plus, it’s so easy to customize and it’s a cute addition to any space. Grab the supplies listed below, and follow these steps to create your own.

Materials Required:
- Chipboard or cardboard leftovers
- Masking tape
- Acrylic paint in different colours
- Paintbrushes
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Exacto knife or scissors
- Leather cord
- Hole puncher
- Hot glue gun
- White gravel, green moss and faux succulents
Step One: Let’s Draw The Planter Base
Firstly, use any cardboard you have leftover at home to make this project. Grab a ruler and a pencil and draw eight identical triangles of 4 inches-width each.

Step Two: Cut the Triangles
Cut the eight triangles with your scissors or Exacto knife carefully, and get your masking tape ready for the next step!

Step Three: Let’s Do Some Origami Work Now
If you love Origami as much as we do, you will have tons of fun assembling the planters. Place the triangles on a flat surface and form a zig-zag pattern by sticking them together with the masking tape. You will stick seven triangles and leave one triangle left for the bottom part of our planters.

Step Four: Form the Geometric Planter
Close the diamond planter shape, leaving the masking tape side facing inwards and stick the remaining triangle to the bottom.

Step Five: Secure the Planter Base
Finalize the base by adding a line of hot glue to each side. Add a bit of pressure until the hot glue is fully dry.

Step Six: Have Fun Painting!
Customize your planters by adding unique shapes and mixing different acrylic paint colours. We painted the base of our planter in white and added abstract shapes in light turquoise.

Step Seven: Add The Cord
Use a hole puncher and make three holes (one on each side) to thread the leather cording. Tie a double-knot inside of the planter base.

Step Eight: Decorate Your Planter
Since we’re not using waterproof chipboard, fill your new origami planters with green moss, white gravel and some beautiful faux succulents to create a lush green look.
