Kortney and Kenny Create a Crisp, Clean Home Full of Life

One of the first things that Kortney and Kenny learned about Garrett was that he loves to cook, specifically barbeque. It’s hard to miss. With a collection of barbeques in the backyard it was important to ensure he’d have an ideal grill space. Kenny took it upon himself to give Garrett a space to grill all year round. With a cement pad and overhead coverage, he can grill to his heart’s content without ever smoking out the house.

Everyone needs a space all their own. While in the midst of renovations, Garrett found the time to ask Kortney and Kenny for something special. After five years of breast cancer treatments, he wanted Cara to have her own space where she could practice yoga and read. He wanted the space to be ‘a big hug for Cara’ and, with a little help from Kortney and Kenny, that’s exactly what she got.

Some things are worth saving. The cabinets in Cara and Garrett’s kitchen may not have worked for their space but they weren’t worthless. Kortney saw the usefulness in the old cabinets and rather than destroy them (as much fun as that can be) chose to save them.

As a family passionate about cooking, their layout wasn’t working. The footprint of their kitchen separated it from the rest of the house with little to no benefit. Being a family that took pride in their meals, and sometimes competed for title of best chef, this hindered them greatly. Through a total overhaul and the addition of a small island, Kortney brought new life and functionality into this space. Now the cooking competitions are back on.

Cooking is easier when you feel comfortable in the space. Kortney wanted this kitchen to come across as crisp, clean, and easy to use. She did so by installing white cabinetry, a maneuverable footprint, and varied backsplash materials. The result was a stunning space that felt light and open, devoid of clutter.

Cara, Garrett, and their children loved enjoying the outdoors on their back deck, but given how quickly the weather changes they were limited in how and when they could enjoy it. Together, with the Making It Home team, they decided that a screened-in deck was the best solution for them. Kenny made quick work of tearing apart the old deck, that is until he discovered that it had been built without footings.

Once the screened-in deck was built, Kortney stepped in to really make it pop. She did so by painting the brick black while contrasting with white on the screen walls. The browns of the furniture and decking tie the whole design together. Now, the whole family can enjoy nature regardless of the weather, and Reagan doesn’t have to deal with the bugs!

Butterflies, that’s what Reagan wanted in her space, but she also wanted a space for a big girl. Kortney did just that by giving her a space that was youthful and vibrant, but also one that she could grown into. Children grow up fast so it’s important that their space can grow with them.

If there’s one thing Tyler loves it’s supercars. After going through the adjustment of moving across the country, Kortney and Kenny wanted to do something special for Tyler. The two even visited Titan Motoring to learn all they could about the world of high horsepower. Armed with her new knowledge, Kortney gave Tyler the ultimate car lover’s room, complete with a real Lamborghini rim.

It was important to Kortney that this house felt like home for all four of them. After difficult years and now some dramatic change, Cara, Garrett, and their children were deserving of a place that felt like home to them. Through Kortney, Kenny, and the rest of the team’s hard work, they made the space one that they could feel safe and comfortable in.
