As we move into 2023, it’s clear that the bathroom is becoming an increasingly important space in our homes. With more and more people looking for ways to create a sense of personal space and relaxation, the bathroom is being transformed into a luxurious (and multifunctional) retreat that caters to all our self-care needs.
From fashion to home, one of the biggest trends for 2023 is the focus on quiet luxury and wellness. This means creating a peaceful, calming bathroom where you can unwind and recharge while also incorporating elements that support self-care. Here are seven key trends we’ll be seeing in bathrooms for 2023:
Quality Materials
Quiet luxury is all about quality and craftsmanship to achieve a polished and sophisticated aesthetic. When it comes to your bathroom, it’s about focusing on the small details and making sure that everything in the bathroom, from the materials to the fixtures, is of the highest quality.
Instead of focusing on expensive tiles and fixtures, more people are putting an emphasis on the overall layout and quality of the materials used in their bathroom. This includes using materials like porcelain tile and high-quality woods and metals.
Comfort and Relaxation
Take a seat! Armoires, sofas, chairs and built-in shower seating have become increasingly popular in recent years, and we don’t see these going anywhere for 2023.
The last few years of isolation have only reinforced the need for comfort and relaxation throughout the home, including your bathroom. Elevate the relaxation experience in your bathroom with heated floors and a lounge area. What better way to unwind after a long day than a bubble bath followed by your favourite skincare routine.
At-Home Spa
There’s nothing more luxurious than an at-home spa. Expect to see more spa-like bathrooms in 2023, with features like steam showers, soaking tubs, spa stations and bathtub trays with all the goods for the full spa experience.
The Tub is Back
Speaking of tubs, the bath tub is back with vengeance. While showers are certainly convenient, many people are rediscovering the joy of the tub after years of renos removing them. From freestanding tubs to built-in models, there are many options to choose from to create a sense of luxury in your bathroom.
Hidden Details
Floating vanities are here to stay. While bathrooms with floating shelving and storage may look simple and spare on the surface, there is often a lot going on behind the walls. Features like floating vanities require hidden steel bars to support them, and other construction details may not be immediately visible but are essential to the overall functionality and longevity of the bathroom.
Feels Like Home
Gone are the days of stale, clinical bathrooms that feel disconnected from the rest of the house. Instead, more people are looking to create a sense of connection and warmth in their bathroom for the ultimate self-care experience.
For a seamless transition into your bathroom area, try carrying over design elements from the rest of your home and using features like multiple layers of lighting and plants to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Sound Insulation
Even though you want to make your bathroom feel like an extension of your home, privacy is still top priority.
Anna Karp, CEO of New York design-build firm Bolster, says her clients are now seeking sound insulation, which includes using heavier doors and other measures to ensure that sound doesn’t carry between the bathroom and other areas of the house. A little privacy never goes out of style and certainly adds luxe to your space.
