When most people renovate a home, they start from scratch. Whether they’ve just bought a property or they’ve been gradually chipping away at it for years, the original goal was to make the space their own. This isn’t the case when renovating your own childhood home. For sisters, Leandra and Alayna, they had the additional factor of their parent’s vision for the home. The home and designs inside were the reflection of a life their parents had built in a new country. The two sisters needed to balance making the space their own, while honoring the lives lived in the space. That’s where Nicole Babb and Caffery Vanhorne of Styled came in. Soon, the whole team was working on refreshing this charming childhood home.

Someone Else’s Style
Leandra and Alayna’s childhood home was in excellent condition, their parents had put a lot of love into it. They had also put their own design tastes into the space. Having been styled by their late mother, the decor wasn’t their taste, but it wasn’t bad either. It was time for the space to suit the girls, but they still wanted to honor the work their parents had done. Rather than going from bad to good, the team wanted to go from good to exceptional, so they got to work.

Sister Style
After demoing the whole main floor, it was time to implement the sister’s style. Clean and modern, with elegant accents to honor the previous designs. Before, much of the house went unused, designated as formal space that didn’t serve the sisters. Now, the whole house feels not only useful, but appropriate to its new owners.
