Looking for a Halloween decoration that will add a little bit of scare to your mantel or some spook to your banister? Look no further than this dead leaf vine project!
Materials
- Black craft wire.
- Black tissue paper or streamer: Either will work! I chose to use a streamer
because of its crinkly texture. - Hot glue gun.
- Scissors.
DIY
STEP 1: Make the leaves
The first step of this project is to create the leaves for your vine. Use your scissors to cut simple leaf shapes at various sizes out of the streamer or tissue paper. The amount of leaves you’ll need to cut will depend on how long you’d like your vine to be.
STEP 2: Attach the leaves
With your leaves cut and your glue gun at the ready carefully fold one of the leaves in half, put a dab of hot glue at the base of one side and attach the leaf to the craft wire.
Repeat this step to all of the leaves, varying the space between them as well as the direction they point. When you come to the end of your craft wire simply add another wire by twisting the two ends together. To conceal the twisted wires, cover with one of your leaves!
STEP 3: Make your leaves grow
When all of your leaves are attached to the wire and you are happy with the length of your vine, start opening the leaves (remember you folded them in half before gluing them on the wire) and gently twisting them slightly to give them a more lifelike appearance.
There are lots of other uses for your dead leaf vines. Use them to accessorize a Halloween costume or create shorter vines to use in place of twist ties on Halloween treat bags!
