Without a formal dining room, Scott decided to install a built-in dining banquette in the living room, turning it into a multi-use entertaining space. (He also reupholstered the dining-set chairs himself to save money.)

In the Navy Now

After completely gutting the kitchen and stealing more square footage from two underused closets, Scott was able to design a functioning, modern kitchen complete with stainless-steel appliances and chic, navy-blue cabinets.

One of the main reasons why Scott elected to invest in this property versus his other option was that it already had a finished basement – it was just missing that distinctive McGillivray design flare. The wood-panelled walls, custom roller blind and comfy microfibre couch covered in tonal, printed pillows are classic Scott.

When Shane and Deborah bought this house four years ago, they paid $200K. While the appraised value has gone up, it was only after Scott invested $78K into the four-week renovations that they were able to sell it for $435K, making a gross profit of $57K.
