Pantone won’t release their Colour of the Year until December, but Behr might have just stole their thunder, releasing its own Colour of the Year, along with an entire 2018 Colour Trends palette of interior and exterior hues that are bound to inspire a makeover, or two. See Behr’s prediction for the 2018 Colour of the Year (and be sure to check back in two months to see if Pantone agrees!).
Behr’s “In the Moment”
Behr Paint’s first-ever Colour of the Year is in the moment – literally. New for 2018, In The Moment T18-15 is a beautiful blue-green hue designed to elicit the experience of being in nature, helping customers relax and recharge. The mixture of spruce blue, soft grey and lush green “coalesces into a fresh shade that evokes a sense of sanctuary and relaxation,” explains Behr’s VP of Colour and Creative Services Erika Woelfel. “In The Moment speaks to our society’s desire to disconnect and be present.”
A Colour That Does Double Duty
The soothing colour has been selected to be not only modern but maximally usable. Woelfel says that In The Moment “pairs well with other subdued colours to create harmony for interiors or exteriors.” The colour looks great with natural materials such as wood, bamboo or linen. It can be used on large areas as a subtly oceanic neutral, or enjoyed as an accent or trim colour alongside other shades.
The 2018 Colour Trends Palette
This first Colour of the Year is being introduced alongside Behr’s 2018 Colour Trends palette. The iconic set of 20 timely hues is expected to predict decor and design fashions in the year to come. Savvy designers can get started now making their homes look fresh and on-trend.
Living “In the Moment”
How to use the new colours? Behr has some suggestions. A room employing In The Moment, Kombucha T18-06, or, as in this kitchen, Wabi-Sabi T18-10 will elicit comfort and contentment – and boast a clean, natural look.
Doing Bright, Right
Stimulate conversation with sprightly hues such as Life Is Good T18-05, Spirit Warrior T18-12, Wide Sky T18-17, and Constellation Blue T18-18 – great choices for your family room or dining area. The rich Life Is Good walls in this relaxed music room are sure to prove inspirational.
Exciting Accent Walls
Looking for a terrific accent colour? Warm-Red Civara T18-02 or deep-eggplant Nocturne Shade T18-04 (pictured here) add excitement and personality to transition spaces and accent walls.
Cool and Calming Colours
Your bedroom should vibe restful. Nothing beats the calming effect of a neutral such as lilac-grey Graylac T18-03 for your bedroom or retreat.
The Colour of the Year and Colour Trends for 2018 reflect Behr’s commitment to help people forge a meaningful connection to their homes and surroundings. This year, Behr has selected colours intended to enhance simplicity and re-energize spaces. The soft neutrals offer a peaceful feeling, while intense accent tones invigorate the soul and make the viewer smile.
The result of using these colours in your home: a sense of well-being and rejuvenation. Who couldn’t use a little of that in their life?
