The Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge returns for another week. That means two more teams will be vying for a shot at the pink carpet showdown. This week, the Barbie designs spilled out of the Dreamhouse and onto the yards. With a 2000’s time capsule in the back and a 90’s front façade there was no shortage of big designs. Read on to see how our two teams transformed the exterior into Barbie’s retro retreat.
Tune in for the pink carpet finale of Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge, Sunday at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV Canada. Also available on the Global TV App and on STACKTV with Amazon Prime Video Channels, fuboTV, Rogers Ignite TV, and Ignite SmartStream.
A Y2K Vacay
Before:
You really couldn’t complain about this backyard. With a pool, slide, and stunning views, it was already a great space. That being said, it wasn’t Barbie, so the team got right to work.
After:
For team Mika and Brian (100 Day Dream Home) they had to transform the backyard into a 2000’s oasis. Luckily, they’re no strangers to fast flips. Despite this, having only seven days to transform such a large space would be a challenge. Together, and with the support of their superfan, Marcos, they rose to that challenge. They added a lifeguard station for Ken, a second water slide, and whole lot of pink turf, all to create the dream Barbie backyard.

90’s Curb Appeal
Before:
A Barbie dreamhouse needs to stand out. There should be no mistaking the home of our favorite doll. Unfortunately, the house in its original state didn’t scream glamour, so things needed to change.
After:
That’s where Evan and Keith (Bargain Block) came in. Given the important task of overhauling the front façade in 90’s styling was no small task. Luckily, Small wasn’t their style. Drawing inspiration from their superfan Nicky, who got to see her culture represented through Chilean Barbie, the duo set out to wow. With a soft pastel palette for the house, they were able to wow with pops of colour on other features. Couture Chilean flamingos as water features, a 90’s Barbie phone for the doorbell, and even a life-sized handle on the roof. Bold was on the menu for the frontage of this house.
