Back in the 1990s, big-screen action hero and then-wife Demi Moore fell in love with the town of Hailey, Idaho, near the Sun Valley ski resort, buying all sorts of local properties to transform the dingy mining town into an upscale vacation paradise. They invested millions in restoring the local movie theatre and transforming a local bar into a Hollywood-style restaurant and nightclub. In 2003, Willis (who had by then split with Moore), purchased a $5.5-million home on a 20-acre lakefront lot, undertaking extensive (and expensive) renovations and landscaping. In 2011, he placed the home on the market, asking $15 million. The house recently sold for the substantially lower price of $5.495 million – about what he paid in the first place.
Nature Retreat
The property is situated on an expansive 20-acre lot, located midway between the Idaho towns of Hailey and Ketchum, on the shore of Flying Heart Lake. Not so much a “home” as it is a “compound,” the 8,403-square-foot log structure boasts celebrity-level privacy, surrounded by a thick forest that includes multiple streams and ponds.

Extensive Renos
Since buying the property in 2003, the Die Hard star’s extensive renovations have included rebuilding the main house, adding a guest house, gym, resort-size heated swimming pool with waterfalls, in addition to major landscaping to improve the view of the lake, as well as adding the aforementioned streams and ponds.
Gated and Secure
Movie star security is ensured thanks to the gated entry. Despite the home’s secluded privacy, skiing, hiking, biking, live music and theatre are only minutes away.
A Record Sale
When Willis purchased the property in 2003, reportedly for less than the $5.5 million asking price, it set a new record as the highest price ever paid for a home in Hailey. When the home went on the market in 2011, the initial asking price was $15 million, which was then shaved down over the years until, in 2018, the price was slashed to $5.895 million, selling for $5.495 million. While it’s not known how much of a loss Willis took on the home, considering the expensive renovations that were undertaken over the years, it’s likely in the millions.
No Shortage of Space
The 8,403-square-foot home is a six-bedroom, seven-bath log house that features heated terraces, balconies and driveway (because who wants to shovel snow when it can simply be melted away?).
Manmade Waterfalls
The backyard area is dominated by the massive heated swimming pool and the manmade stone waterfall that sends H2O cascading into the pool, surrounded by a large patio that’s ideal for outdoor R&R.
Meticulous Renovations
A roaring fire can be enjoyed within a double-height stone fireplace in the living room, surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view of the pool.
This $5.5-million compound looks like a bargain compared to the $13.5 mil that A Star Is Born‘s Bradley Cooper just spent on a Manhattan townhouse.
Three Fireplaces
Here’s another of the home’s three wood-burning fireplaces, offering warm coziness ideal for apres-ski relaxing while poring over the scripts for the next few Die Hard sequels.
Rustic Luxury
The double-height living room opens to an adjacent seating area, with the exposed log beams and reclaimed hardwood floors adding a feel that’s both rustic and luxurious.
Open Concept
The main living area features open-concept spaces that flow into one another, with the living room and family room areas opening to the gourmet kitchen.
Custom Kitchen
The large kitchen features no shortage of counter space or storage within the wood cabinets, with features including a double-door integrated refrigerator, an eight-burner gas range and a temperature-controlled wine refrigerator.
Dining Room
Situated right off the main entrance, the home’s dining room is casual and inviting, with exposed log beams adding the warmth of wood.
Master Suite
The jewel in the crown, so to speak, is the home’s massive 2,200-square-foot master suite, which boasts a stone-enclosed wood-burning fireplace and sitting area. There’s also an adjacent master bathroom that boasts a jetted soaking tub and granite steam shower, while the spacious walk-in closet and dressing room features built-in dressers and shelving.
Idaho Splendour
The heated pool and its cascading waterfalls offer a luxurious backyard retreat.
