Myth #1: Remodelling the Kitchen Won’t Add Much Value
Truth: Remodelling your kitchen can actually be a great investment. Regardless of myth, having an updated kitchen can be the make-or-break decision for any potential homebuyer. While kitchen renovations can be an expensive investment, they will guarantee a return of invesment (ROI) when it comes time to sell.
Myth #2: “Go Big or Go Home” With Your Kitchen Remodel
Truth: You don’t always have to spend heaps of money to splurge on the kitchen. While it may feel like you need top-of-the-line features in a kitchen remodel, it is possible to do it on a budget. Making small alternative decisions can help in the long run. Instead of high-end cabinetry for example, check out ready-to-assemble options instead. They do the job without breaking the bank.
Myth #3: Appearance is Everything
Truth: Appearance does matter, but it isn’t everything. Make sure that you’re not only investing your money in the appearance of the kitchen, but also the functionality of it. Storage is a key factor in any kitchen and can be a major selling point. While it may not seem like a luxurious feature, it does provide an essential function for any kitchen. If you have a great-looking kitchen, but no storage space, it may be a deterrent for potential homebuyers.
Myth #4: It Will Go Out of Style in a Few Years Anyway
Truth: While styles do change over time, it’s possible to make conscious choices during your remodel that ensures your kitchen won’t go out of style. Timeless features include white cabinets, quartz or granite countertops and hardwood flooring. Avoid style fads.
Myth #5: Hiring a Designer or Contractor is a Waste of Money
Truth: Hiring a professional for any type of renovation is always a smart move. Although it’s another out-of-pocket cost, this decision can help rule out any possible design mistakes or misjudgments. Whether you hire a designer or contractor to help with your kitchen remodel, you are paying to ensure that the job is done correctly. This could end up saving you money in the long run.
Myth #6 : Renovating Isn’t Eco-Friendly
Truth: This can be a concern for any homeowner looking to do a remodel. While you might worry that a major remodel project won’t be eco-friendly, there are actually many alternative choices that are beneficial to the environment. Doing your research in advance on products and equipment will ensure that your remodel will not negatively impact the environment.
Myth #7: If You Hire Someone, They Will Take Care of Everything
Truth: While I do recommend hiring a professional for remodels or renovations, it doesn’t mean that you can walk away from the project. The homeowner needs to be present during every step of the decision-making process. While the professional is there to properly guide you and help complete the project, the homeowner is the ultimate decision-maker. Stay involved.
