It’s been a few years since we last saw Sarah Richardson, and what a few years it’s been! Now, Sarah is back in Sarah’s Mountain Escape and she’s taking on a project unlike any she’s done before, overhauling a 5000-square-foot Bavarian-style B&B in Whistler, BC.
We sat down with Sarah to get the latest on the new series and find out what she’s been up to since we last saw her on HGTV.
Watch Sarah’s Mountain Escape starting Wednesday, October 19 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV Canada. Also Available on the Global TV App and on STACKTV with Amazon Prime Video Channels and Rogers.
She’s Been in Work Mode
“When everyone got sent to work from home, I think a lot of people looked around and said ‘Wow, we need to make some changes.’ So, home has never been more at the forefront.” During the pandemic, when so many people started working from home, the need for home offices skyrocketed. Since everyone wants their workspace to suit them, Sarah got busy fast.
But There’s Always Time for Fun
Despite her busy schedule, Sarah always finds time for family. It’s important to slow down and enjoy the things that matter, after all. Sarah, her husband Alex, and their two daughters know to take time for those moments together, even if it’s just stacking firewood.
Everything is New
“Being in the mountains and going to B.C. was an opportunity we’d never had the chance to do before.” By taking on this new project, Sarah’s been able to work in and truly experience one of the most breathtaking spots Canada has to offer. Work’s not so bad with a view and family by your side!

She’s Got a Passion for Water Skiing
“I got in one water ski this summer, on Labour Day. I wasn’t going to let the summer go by without (water skiing) just once.” Sarah shared a photo of the epic summer day on her Instagram with the caption “Can’t do BTS till we check one last thing off the list…putting the yay in Labour Day with a mom/girl ski – and then back to the city/work/school we go! Love you summer.”
They’ve Been on the Road in Style
Sarah’s husband Alex has a deep love for vintage and classic cars. With the scenic fall colours and cool air coming in, the two have been taking the opportunity to go out for joy drives and mini road trips.
Her Current (And Forever) Theme Song
We asked Sarah to choose one theme song to best describe her life right now. “My theme song has always been ‘Jimmy Cliff – You Can Get It If You Really Want’.” It fits perfectly alongside her positive yet determined mindset that has made her such a resourceful designer. “It speaks to just sticking with it, getting through it, and keeping going.”

She’s Keeping Up With YouTube

Going Sky High
Sarah’s husband doesn’t just love the open road, but the skies as well. Recently, Sarah was a passenger while Alex flew a helicopter! The two flew over some of the most stunning mountains and scenery British Columbia has to offer.
Sarah’s Been Here From the Start
“I was the set decorator on the first show that went to air when the lights went on on HGTV Canada.” Sarah has been around for just about all of it! “What’s fun is seeing how it continues to evolve.”
