Fans are mourning the death of Carrie Fisher and her mother, Hollywood icon Debbie Reynolds. The Burbank, California, home in which Reynolds grew up recently went on the market for $749,000, selling for $770,000, offering a peek inside the somewhat modest home where the ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ star spent her childhood. Modest Rancher
Originally built in 1940, when Reynolds was eight, this three-bedroom, two-bathroom ranch-style home seems to have maintained the same footprint, situated on a 6,600-square-foot lot.
A Cozy Home
At a relatively small 1.246 square feet, the home is certainly not like the Beverly Hills mansion in which Reynolds spent her later years, but the open concept in this living/dining room provides a feeling of spaciousness you might not expect in such a small space.
Natural Light
Situated at the front of the home and accessed through the front door, the living room boasts several large windows to open up the space and allow plenty of natural light throughout.
Updated Kitchen
The home has been updated since the 1940s, but as we can see in the cozy kitchen with its somewhat dated turquoise tile backsplash, another one probably wouldn’t hurt.
Open Concept
The kitchen opens to the dining room and the living room beyond, creating a nice flow throughout the spaces, with the same hardwood flooring carrying throughout into the kitchen.
DIning Area
The dining room retains some of the home’s original charm while boasting such modern updates as the vaulted ceiling and recessed lighting.
Laundry Nook
A stacked washer-dryer is hidden off the kitchen in a small vestibule featuring another entrance to the home.
Impressive Master
The master bedroom – one of three in the home – boasts a set of French doors opening directly to the backyard patio and pool, in ideal Southern California style.
Second Bedroom
Another of the three bedrooms is smaller and more modest, but makes the most of the space with built-in shelving. Recessed lighting in the ceiling is clearly a recent addition.
Third Bedroom
Another bedroom, somewhat nondescript, but large enough and given a warm feel thanks to the home’s honey-hued hardwood floors.
Bathroom
A few renovations dollars thrown at this dated bathroom would go a long way.
Outdoor Style
The home’s real selling point is its large lot and spacious backyard, with this attractive patio accessed via French doors from the master bedroom.
Brick Oven
This brick pizza oven can fire up outdoor entertaining, and also offers an attractive visual feature in the backyard.
Pool
While the house may seem modest by Hollywood standards, the pool is large an inviting, making the most of the expansive 6,600-square-foot lot.
Guest House
In addition to the main house, the property also boasts this freestanding guest house, which could easily serve as a studio space, fitness centre or home office.
