There’s no arguing that a white cooking space is classic. But sometimes it’s fun to mess with convention: incorporate brave, bold bands of colour into your next kitchen design and you may just discover living with lively hues isn’t as scary as you thought. Seek decor inspiration from these rainbow-bright spaces, which prove exactly that.
Blast of Blue
Designer Jillian Harris of Love It or List It Vancouver was in a blue mood when she made over this beachy home. The soothing space features a band of indigo paint that aptly recalls a seaside horizon line; coordinating artwork and drapery and light wood round out the look, but it’s the colour-blocked wall that really pulls it all together.
Green Scene
Give a white kitchen a break, like HGTV designer Sarah Richardson did here. We love how she fully committed to bringing grassy green to the cabinets, even going so far as to add vintage green enamel pendant lights.
Show Your Stripes
Retro-hued stripes straight out of a ’70s palette feel fresh and modern on this funky backsplash by designer Sarah Richardson. We love how the chrome gooseneck faucet and sink add contemporary contrast and bling.
Citrus Twist
When IKEA introduced its Sektion system, we went gaga over its customization. Another reason to love the line: its Järsta high-gloss orange accent cabinets that provide a fabulous pop of contrast against a white palette. We’re coveting the matching bar stools, too. Speaking of the Swedish superstore, this chill condo proves you’re never too old for IKEA.
When Blue Met Gold
This is one of those When Harry Met Sally moments. You wouldn’t think that these shades of blue, yellow and gold would work, but it provides wonderful warmth and contrast in this modern space.

Pleasing Palette
The designers of this space eschewed predictable white in this revamped kitchen – and we’re so glad they did. This standout space pairs the warm wood of the kitchen countertops with the bold teal cabinets – and a kitchen has never looked so good.
Orange Crush
We’ve got a crush on this showstopper of a kitchen. The resplendent orange walls and citrus-hued wood make this space just divine. The three large pendant lights bounce the colour around the space.
Feeling Teal
We love how the bright teal hue on the backsplash matches the dishware inside the glass-front cabinets. It brings us visions of beachy summer days.
Adventurous Spirit
The yellow pantry door and graphic accent wall behind the sink screams “we love colour” in this eco-conscious Montreal home. Wait until you see inside of the homeowner’s pantry!
Pretty in Pink
The bold kitchen colours don’t have to stay on just your walls, cabinets and furniture. Try it on the inside of your pantry too! Take a video tour of this walk-in pantry here.
