Step 1: Design Your Table

Sketch the design of your table beforehand. Consider the size, shape and any specific bends or curves you want to incorporate into your table. Ensure that the top edges of the table will be level with the floor. A functional table is the end goal, so take note of precise measurements.

Step 2: Safety Check

Double check your design to ensure it’s safe and practical. Avoid creating sharp angles or bends that could compromise the structural integrity of the piece. Keep in mind the dimensions of the space where you plan to place the finished product.

Step 3: Heat Things Up

Now comes the exciting part! Fire up your heat gun and set it to a high temperature. Hold the heat gun about 6-8 inches away from the plexiglass, moving it evenly across the surface. Do not hover over any single area for too long or you risk melting the surface. As the plexiglass heats up, you’ll notice it becoming more pliable.

Step 4: Bend and Shape

Once the plexiglass reaches the desired temperature, carefully bend and shape it according to your design. You can experiment with different curves and angles, creating a truly unique and flexible piece. You can use the edge of an old table to create 90-degree angles, or a plastic pipe to make more fluid curves in your design.

Step 5: Cool Down

Allow the newly shaped plexiglass to cool down and harden. This step is crucial for maintaining the form of your table. Avoid any movement or adjustments until the plexiglass has fully cooled.

Step 6: Admire Your Creation

Stand back and admire your flexi, bendy DIY side table masterpiece! In almost no time at all, you’ll have transformed a plain sheet of plexiglass into a modern, eye-catching piece of furniture that’s sure to be a focal point in any room.

Remember, the beauty of this project lies in its flexibility—both literally and figuratively. Don’t hesitate to experiment with different shapes and designs to suit your style.
