Materials:
- Natural undyed bottlebrush trees (variety of sizes)
- Gel food colouring or fabric dye (variety of colours)
- Toothpicks
- Mason jars/cups
- Water
- Spoons
- Tongs
- Paper towel/rags
Instructions:
Step One: Fill 2 mason jars with water. One jar will be for dying the trees, the other will be a rinse jar.
Step Two: Use a toothpick to add a small amount of gel food colouring into one of the jars. Mix well.
Step Three: Use tongs to place some bottlebrush trees inside the jar. The longer the trees stay inside the jar, the richer the colour will be.
Tip: To create an ombre effect, let some trees stay in the jar longer than others. And feel free to add more food colouring on a second batch to help diversify the colours even more!
Step Four: When ready to remove the trees from the dye jar, place them into the rinse jar for 1-2 minutes. This will ensure that any leftover colouring will not rub off on surfaces on display.
Step Five: Remove trees from the rinse jar and place them on a paper towel or a rag. Let dry fully.
Step Six: Repeat this process with multiple colours of gel food colouring to create a rainbow look.
Step Seven: Put the trees on display on a mantle, shelf or windowsill and enjoy all season long!
