Tiffany Pratt’s DIY Heart Pillow is the Cutest (and Easiest!) Valentine’s Day Gift

Tiffany Pratt’s DIY Heart Pillow is the Cutest (and Easiest!) Valentine’s Day Gift

When I was a little girl, I started collecting heart-shaped pillows (would you expect anything less?). At nine years old, I had a very nice collection on my bed and I was so proud of it! Given that we are close to Valentine’s Day and differently shaped pillows are all the rage, I wanted to share my heart pillow DIY with you. This can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it. Depending on your sewing level, you can make this fancy with trim or you can assemble this with a hot glue gun. Either way, everyone can make one and it will quickly become a household must-have! Take a quick trip to the fabric store to gather your supplies and then you’re ready to get started!

Here is what you are going to need to make a DIY heart-shaped pillow: a hot glue gun or a sewing machine, fabric of any kind or colour that you would like, cotton filler, scissors, paper to make templates, and pillow trim (optional).

Step One: Create your Paper Templates and Cut Your Fabric

Cut your paper temples into the shape and size of heart that you would like and then fold your fabric in half and cut your heart out of the fabric making two cut hearts. You can cut fabric of two different colours or you can use the same colour for both sides! This is your choice! You can pin the paper onto the fabric while cutting for ease of use or you can just go for it!

Step Two: Hot Glue or Sew the Pillow Together

Once your fabric is cut you can decide if you want to hot glue this pillow or if you want to sew it! If you want to hand sew it together you can. Otherwise, a quick run on the sewing machine can knock this out fast. Then you have to decide if you want a trim. I made some with trim and some without. Either is fine. Trim is a little trickier! Next, you place both front facing sides together and begin sewing or gluing all the way around leaving a 1.5 inch hole on the side for stuffing.

Note: You have to use thicker fabric when using hot glue!

Step Three: Stuff Your Pillow

Pull your pillow inside out. Now that you have your seams all glued or sewed up-you need to pull your front facing fabric out and begin stuffing the pillow. You can find cotton stuffing at most fabric stores or you can take some out of an old pillow that you are no longer using! Begin stuffing cotton inside the hole that you left when you were sewing. Then you hot glue or stitch your hole closed and you are done!

Heart pillows are so easy and so whimsical! They make every chair sing with love and they make really great seasonal accessories! My inner 9-year-old will tell you it does not have to be Valentines Day for you to have a heart pillow decorating your home! Hearts are forever and for all occasions in every room!
