Long before he moved from Trump Tower into the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump resided in a surprisingly modest Tudor-style home in Queens, New York. Trump’s childhood home was sold at auction in late 2016, and can now be your temporary home as an Airbnb rental.
1940 Tudor
The brick-and-stucco Tudor-style home was built in 1940 by Fred Trump, featuring five bedrooms and 4.5 baths, situated on a corner lot in Jamaica Estates, Queens. It can currently be rented (it supposedly sleeps 20!) via Airbnb, with these photos coming from the listing when it was on the market before being sold to the current owner.
Up for Auction
Before the home was sold, its previous owners had been trying to sell since July 2016, when it hit the market with an asking price of $1.65 million.
Ample Parking
When you factor in the double-car detached garage and the five-car driveway, there’s plenty of parking to be had.
Nice Neighbourhood
The home’s living room looks somewhat dated, but features the original hardwood floors and fireplace. While Trump’s childhood home isn’t nearly as glitzy as what we usually associate with the Trump brand, Jamaica Estates is an upscale area. “It’s a beautiful neighbourhood, nice, quiet, no crime, very manicured,” Trump once said of Jamaica Estates. “It’s like living upstate but being in the city.”
Formal Dining
The home’s formal dining room could use some updates.
Library/Office
Dark wood panelling and built-in shelving feature in this home office/library.
Historic Site
Now that Trump is president, will this home be designated a national historic site?
Kitchen
The kitchen of Trump’s childhood home, which can be rented for $948 per night.
Affordability Factor
When the home was on the market, the realtor declared “it’s probably the least expensive Tudor in Jamaica Estates now.”
Eating Area
A small eating nook in the corner of the kitchen, with French doors opening to the enclosed back porch.
Porch
Screened in for summertime, this back porch overlooks the backyard.
Pretty Pink
This bathroom, with its magenta tub lining and matching sink, is a living time capsule from a bygone (and far groovier) era.
Blue Bathroom
While most of the home is painted in somewhat drab tones, the bathrooms are as colourful as can be, such as this blue-tiled bathroom.
Master Bedroom
The home’s master bedroom, which likely looks about the same as it did when little Donald lived there as a boy.
Hardwood Throughout
Another of the home’s five bedrooms, which has a warm, relaxing vibe due in no small part to the well-worn hardwood floor.
The Donald’s Old Room?
Could this have been Donald Trump’s childhood bedroom? In any case, it’s likely that the home (as is typical in houses of that era) wasn’t built with a lot of closet space, as evidenced by the large wardrobe that looms over the room like a giant, dark monolith.
Attic Access
A small door opens to a set of stairs on the second floor to provide access to the a small attic bedroom.
Attic Bedroom
Located in the attic, a set of windows allows some light into this compact bedroom.
Finished Basement
The finished basement is used as a family room/screening room, with a leather couch positioned in front of a video screen and projection set-up that was probably considered state of the art audio-visual technology a few decades ago.
