There is nothing more annoying during the snowy months than the wet and messy reality of boots in the winter! The in and out traffic of a busy home can leave your entrance way looking less desirable than normal and leaving you with rows of black rubber boot trays to try and keep the wet and salt at bay! Well, although I understand the need for the boot tray, I do not need the black rubber colour that they come in. Black does not go with much of anything that I have in my home and given (literally) a few minutes with duct tape- you too can have a technicoloured boot tray that leaves your entrance filled with sizzle and less salt!
Here are the materials you will need to make a colourful DIY boot tray: Duct tape of any colour, black rubber boot tray, and scissors.
Step One: Think About Your Boot Tray’s Pattern
Plan what kind of pattern or design that you would like to cover on your boot tray and grab as many colours of duct tape as you would like! Duct tape is so magical that it really holds up against the elements and stays put on the boot tray while still maintaining the water resistance that the original boot tray does.
Step Two: Put the Tape on the Tray
You can rip or cut your tape into place with a pattern or plan or nothing at all. The cool thing about this project is that it falls into place very easily using any combination of colours and placement. It will always end up looking cool and purposeful! I followed the horizontal lines of the boot tray so that the tape fit perfectly in the grooves that the boot tray already had so the water did not stand a chance ruining my design.
Something so small and simple as a boot tray is a great example of making small changes for big impact for almost no money. There is healing energy in colour and when you infuse something that you use everyday during the dark winter months with colour and handmade life energy-then you are all set to have a little skip in your step when you start or end your day with this boot tray!
