Alicja set about creating a home that would instantly put her at ease, and would feel all her own. Thanks to a calming colour palette, decorative accents and a unique mix of DIY projects (we’re looking at you, glass barn door), it’s safe to say Alicja achieved her vision. The home is a wonderful reflection of her creative, bohemian style, and the sort of restful retreat we’d happily spend a few months of lockdown in. See how Alicja turned this sweet two-bedroom into a one-of-a-kind casa. Bonus: check out the video of this relaxing space.
Alicja’s Scandi-Meets-Mid-Century-Meets-Boho Home
Alicja’s two-bedroom home is a celebration of design. With touches of Scandinavian style, Mid-Century furniture and bohemian accessories, it’s an artful balance that’s all her own. But if you peek her Instagram account, where she details her home and DIY projects, you’ll see it’s constantly evolving, and marvel at how instantly an orange striped throw or a geometric pillow can transform the entire aesthetic.

Perfecting the Look
It took Alicja time to really hone in on her style, and in the early days of furnishing her home, there was a lot of trial and error, “I was constantly switching things around and returning items to find the right vibe I was looking for.” And because her style is so evolved, and so consistent throughout the home, pieces flow seamlessly from one room to the next.
A Home With Good Bones
When Alicja first toured her future home, she was drawn to the high ceilings and tall baseboards. With great bones and a blank canvas, she knew she’d be able to personalize the space, and adapt it to fit her lifestyle.
A Not-So-Standard Standard Kitchen
Alicja’s kitchen was pretty standard to begin: white cabinets, black hardware, grey backsplash. With the addition of an island, vintage-inspired barstools and touches of wood accents and plants sprinkled throughout, the kitchen has depth, charm and functionality.
A Corner With Purpose
The living and dining rooms open onto each other, and this large corner floats between the spaces. Alicja gave it purpose with a heavenly lounger, and styled it with cozy accent pillows, a dreamy lantern and a statement wall above. We’ve seen her refer to it as her favourite spot in her home, and it’s easy to see why: we’re all about that #loungelife.

It’s a Block Party
Alicja’s penchant for DIY projects has seen this living room through a few facelifts. A half wall of charcoal grey provides a warm anchor for the room, and the bright white accent behind the couch provides the perfect frame for Alicja’s artwork. She created it with leftover paint!

Slide to the Left, Slide to the Right
A sliding glass barn door was one of the many upgrades Alicja made to the home after moving in, and it’s by far her favourite. Despite a tricky installation (thanks to uneven floors), the barn door now fits perfectly with Alicja’s boho-meets-Scandi aesthetic.
Peek Behind the Curtain
For privacy, Alicja hung curtains on the other side of the barn door. They provide a lovely frame for the view of the dining room, and break up the clean white walls in the primary bedroom.
Bedroom Eyes
Alicja’s bedroom is simple and bright, but to counteract the mostly white palette, she mounted two floating shelves above the bed, which allow her to easily swap artwork in and out. For anyone with a non-committal style when it comes to design, floating shelves are a great option! We also love Alicja’s trick of storing books with the pages side out to keep the look neutral.

All Dressed Up
The clean lines of a Mid-Century Modern dresser look even lovelier after receiving a bright white paint. Second to the barn door, this dresser was one of Alicja’s favourite DIY projects after moving into her home.

Orange You Glad You Came to Visit?
Alicja’s guest bedroom is a welcome respite for visitors, and we love that she chose to bring a little flare to the space with a mixture of orange and knit pillows, and an exceptional orange throw (that’s appeared all throughout her home when other areas needed a little pick-me-up).
A Sweet and Simple Bathroom
The test of a true aesthetic is whether it extends all the way to the bathroom! Alicja’s follows the same colour palette as the rest of her home: white and black, with touches of wood, orange and greenery. Like the rest of her home, it instantly puts us at ease (bubble bath anyone?).
