The Holmes + Holmes star proposed to Lisa on a surprise Ottawa road trip, where they spent time hiking the Gatineau Hills, walking along the Rideau Canal, getting a couple’s massage and eating gluten-free poutine. “On Sunday night, he made dinner reservations at Restaurant 18, and I later found out he rented the entire restaurant to propose!” says Lisa. The Holmes + Holmes duo share a heartfelt moment leading up to the ceremony.

Mike Holmes Jr. was tearing up during the ceremony, when he first caught sight of his beautiful bride. He’s dressed in a dapper Hugo Boss tuxedo.

The blushing bride took her father’s arm as she walked down the aisle barefoot. Both she and MJ wore rose gold wedding bands, which helped inspire the colour scheme for the bridesmaid dresses: blush, ivory and rose gold. “The colours are elegant, feminine, pretty and perfect for a garden-themed wedding,” says Lisa.

The picture-perfect ceremony was officiated by Lisa’s godmother, Terri Scallon, who is a close friend of her mothers and flew in from British Columbia.

The newlyweds chose a “secret garden” wedding theme because they both love spending time in the great outdoors. “I’m also a herbalist and find peace and beauty in nature,” says Lisa. “We wanted our wedding to be in a relaxed and peaceful setting.” With flower petals lining the aisle, torches and candles dotting the property and strings of twinkle lights hanging in the reception tent, we’d say they achieved exactly that.

The couple opted for a ceremony and reception that strays from tradition. “We decided to treat it as more of a celebration of love for everyone instead of a formal and conventional event,” says the bride. Instead of hiring a florist, Lisa hand-picked all of the wedding’s beautiful blooms from the Blue Mountain region.

The bride and groom chose to wed in the Blue Mountain region because Lisa’s family has visited and loved the area for years. It’s now become a special place for both families.

A handful of HGTV Canada stars were also in attendance, including Sangita Patel, Sabrina Smelko, Brian McCourt and Colin Hunter, pictured here with the groom. “What an incredible celebration of two of my favourite people getting married. Everything was top notch, yet down to earth – just like Mike and Lisa,” said Brian McCourt. “I’m so happy for you lovebirds!”

After the joyful ceremony, the just-married pair had their first dance to the song “Bloom” by The Paper Kites. “It’s a special song for us that we feel speaks to our love for one another,” says Lisa.

Mike Holmes and his daughter Sherry know a thing or two about busting a move on the dance floor.

Instead of traditional seating, the couple opted for a less formal setup, with no seating chart or head table. This way, guests were even more encouraged to join them on the dance floor!

Guests joined the newlyweds during the reception for a “wandering feast” consisting of gluten-free fare (Lisa is celiac).

Food stations were set up throughout the property, from risotto and charcuterie stations to healthy green options and even late-night poutine. As for dessert? Gluten-free chocolate everything (we’re talking brownies, a chocolate fountain, decadent chocolate chip cookies and cupcakes).

Once nightfall hit, the couple took to the podium, sharing a moment together and thanking all their guests.
