Fierce dancer, actress and mama, Jenna Dewan, has crunked with the best: Janet Jackson, Christina Aguilera, Pink and Missy Elliott. She has also acted in films and TV series. But let’s be real. There’s no bigger, messier and more challenging role than parenting. On June 14 Jenna and her husband, Steve Kazee, welcomed a baby girl named Rhiannon Lee Kathryn Kazee. The crew lives in California with their son, Callum, and Dewan’s daughter, Everly, from her relationship with Channing Tatum. Though the couple aren’t exactly parental newbies, everyone could use a helping hand when it comes to bedecking the nursery for a persnickety newborn. (Ok, maybe the pretty stuff is really for the parents.) For her nursery, Dewan partnered with the Crate & Kids Design Desk. Here’s a breakdown of the pieces that went into her charming and cozy girl’s crib. It’s a good one. In Jenna’s own words: “When I saw the nursery, I was blown away — in total awe and emotional. It was beyond perfect.”
Calm Before The Chaos
Here’s Jenna before Rhiannon’s arrival looking smashing in her daughter’s new nursery. For the crib, which is often the first piece of furniture chosen in a nursery, the Crate & Kids designers went with the Lennox Carved Natural Wood Convertible Baby Crib by Leanne Ford. The curved corners, intricate detailing and turned legs are a throwback to a more graceful time period. This kid is definitely going to grow up to be a queen!
Beary Cute Decor
A fawn-toned bear in a party hat is a perfect way to ring in the baby’s arrival. Fuzzy animal-head wall decor is always adorable in kids’ spaces. Crate & Kids also carries a rabbit and elephant, if you’re interested in starting a zoo. We love how the bear blends into the cozyifing wallpaper. Total monochromatic moment.
A Dresser That Grows With Junior (or Juniorette)
The Hampshire Dresser is both timeless and functional. Jenna and Steve can put a changing pad on top for diaper days (or daze, amirite?) and then convert it to a big-kid dresser when their marathon-long years of poop and pee are behind them. The dome-shaped Clay Table Lamp, Waveland Wavy Mirror and Brass Heart Baby Mobile are stunning and simple against the soothing wallpaper.
Wall All Over Me
Designing a nursery? A rug is an absolute must-have item. It pulls an entire room together and feels soft and comforting underfoot. The designers of Jenna’s nursery chose this flatweave rug that features puffy pink raised scalloped piles. #Love.
Dressing the Daybed
Daybeds are ideal for all of those cushy doodads you’ve been harbouring on your quest for the nicest nursery. Pile them in a corner, like the Crate & Kids designers did in Jenna’s nursery. You can find the bits here. PS: Keep all of the pieces in the same tone for a cohesive vibe!
The Dreamiest Snooze
Sleep-wise, the early baby years are frightening. (Um, we mean they are completely rewarding and please someone send help and a triple espresso stat.) Adding a daybed into a nursery is a great landing spot for both you and your child. “I learned from my other two kids that a cozy bed for cuddles and naps will be used nonstop, especially in the first year,” says Jenna.
Think Soft Surfaces
Here’s a closer look at the daybed vignette. In addition to the snuggly pillows and stuffies, there’s organic cotton bedding that makes sense in a baby’s room. Crate & Kids carries various lovely patterns in their bedding line from checkers to stripes, so you can switch it up on a whim.
A Kid-Size Pedestal Table
Leanne Ford’s Willy Round Kids Play Table is perfect for future arts and crafts sessions. (Can we get this in adult size, please?) We are seriously crushing on its modern profile. A round table is a space saver. And having an extra surface in a nursery is perfect for putting down that cup of tea on those late, late nights.
The Loveliest Quilt
Draped on a crib, a quilt is one of those accessories that’s always on trend. Even better when it’s wrapped around a baby giving off those newborn smells that are a cross between freshly washed laundry and the scent of panda paws (at least we imagine giant Oreo bears would smell babyish).
Glide Into Dawn
“I am in love with the rocking chair and ottoman, which I will be using day and night,” says Jenna of the Ever Slipcovered Striped Nursery Glider Chair and Ottoman by Leanne Ford. For a casual, comfortable feel, it’s made of easy-to-clean linen. Bonus in the spittle-filled setting!
Shelf-ishly Styled
It’s so fun to style a nursery shelf. We love what the designers did here: they combined two low units to create an artful area, where striped baskets provide hidden storage. The open shelves are for display, obviously. Now, go on and fill them with the adorable shop-therapy gewgaws you’ve scooped up — such as books with cute covers and mini vases. Thanks for the nursery tour, Jenna and Steve!
