‘Sports Illustrated’ swimsuit model Kate Upton and fiancé Justin Verlander of the Detroit Tigers have bought a 5,500-square-foot, five-bed, six-bathroom home within a gated community in Beverly Hills. The two lovebirds have taken their first big step before tying the knot, choosing this gorgeous mansion in the secluded Benedict Canyon neighbourhood as their “starter home.”
All-Star Estate
Upton and Verlander scored big-time with this Los Angeles property with a solid celebrity pedigree, with previous owners including saxophonist Kenny G, original Charlie’s Angels star Kate Jackson and tennis great Pete Sampras. Described as an East Coast country estate, the home is set on a 1.55-acre lot. The two-storey sprawl is also built out instead of up. The celebrity couple will have plenty of room for work and play, as this aerial view of the estate reveals. Built in 1976 and renovated over the years, the home features a tennis court, pool and expansive manicured grounds.
Happy Hour
They’re young, they’re fit and we bet they can party and entertain all night long, so this bar is a must-have for the hip hosting couple. The dark cabinetry is unique and allows for a peek into what’s next on the cocktail menu. The bright lights and white walls will help keep guests awake so they can keep coming back for more.
Mirrors and Glass
The white exterior façade extends inside the home and into this bathroom, where the clean, fresh look promises a good wash. The splash of dark wood and tile offers a pleasant contrast to the alabaster appearance of the space.
And Baby Makes Three?
While the couple haven’t publicly discussed starting a family, this bedroom, one of five, is filled with natural light and offers a lovely window seat that would seemingly make it a perfect baby’s room.
Wide Open
We’re going crazy for these cathedral-style natural wood beams on the ceiling of the large living room area. The light-toned floors work well in the space, and bring in more brightness to an already airy and open area. The massive mirror and wall of windows continue to add to the spacious feel.
Modest Dining
More light wood floors and seating along with white walls welcome us into the vibrant dining room. French doors are everywhere, some leading to the expansive lawn while others lead back into the kitchen. Though undeniably lovely, the room is nonetheless somewhat modest. The hosts will most likely want to take their guests and move onto the other features of the home – like the game room, hot tub or outdoor bar – once the meal is done.
White With Windows
This view looks into the picture windows featured around the perimeter of the house, with the dormers of two of the five bedrooms serving as the “peak” of perfection. We also get our first glance onto the large flagstone patio and outdoor grounds, boasting a spacious lawn that will no doubt be enjoyed by Upton’s dog, Harley.
Living Room Luxury
More French doors and more gorgeous living space. Painted white wood (lots and lots of it) works well here, and the huge flagstone wall fireplace gives the room a comfy-cozy at-home feel. The built-in shelving is a reminder of the home’s various renos over the years.
Cook Kitchen
The spacious gourmet kitchen features picturesque low-hanging lights and and a gigantic centre island as its focal point. The space opens up to the wet bar with an island of its own, just out of sight. There’s also a farmhouse sink, large cooking range and a tremendous amount of white-marble counter space.
Pristine Laundry
Who doesn’t love a marble laundry room countertop? More white walls and light flooring accent the white side-by-side front-loading washer and dryer.
Office and Sitting Room
These dark beveled wood floors are lovely in this office area. French doors bring in a wealth of natural light and the little niche at the back of the room features an inset desk to keep work hidden when it’s time for some R&R.
Major League Lounging
This idyllic backyard patio is one of multiple outdoor lounges on the property. The flagstones stretch out below a multitude of mature trees that provide an ample amount of shade.
Being Koi
The short walk down the shaded flagstone path brings you to a fountain and idyllic koi pond.
A Substantial Swim
Although the vast acreage doesn’t offer a baseball diamond for the 33-year-old star pitcher, he can still stay active by swimming laps in this gigantic pool. Surrounded by rustic red brick, this uniquely shaped pool features an adjacent hot tub where the stunning swimsuit model can unwind from her job of looking gorgeous all day.
Tennis, Anyone?
The active power couple needs to keep in peak form and this large sunken tennis court, designed for onetime owner and tennis great Pete Sampras, is just the right place to do it.
Sun and Shade
The massive outdoor space is also ideal for entertaining and provides a good mix of sun and shade – an important feature for the supermodel who has to mind her youthful appearance and simply can’t stay in the blazing California sun all day.
