Following the first-season success of HGTV Canada’s Scott’s Vacation House Rules, Scott McGillivray is back to transform another vacation property into a money-making dream rental. Only this time, the waterfront location he’s turning around is his own. In Scott’s Own Vacation House, he and his family — with a little help from designers Debra Salmoni and Giselle Bullin — will take a four-building cottage property from zero to hero.
Ahead of the new show’s premiere on March 14, we figured we’d see what else the HGTV Canada personality has been up to since we last saw him onscreen.
He’s Been Enjoying a Little Bit Of Downtime
Scott works hard and plays hard, but how does he recharge? Well, sometimes a guy just needs to zone out on his own. The renovator and renter extraordinaire has been known to hang out in his office, playing a game or two on his phone. Of course, everything in his office is exactly the way he wants it, so it’s a super personal and comfy space for him.

Okay, So Maybe He’s Had Some Well-Deserved Time Off, Too
You can’t just work to bring other people the vacation experience of their dreams, sometimes you need to take a little vacay yourself. Even if your idea of a holiday is casting a line down a giant hole of ice water and coming up with a beauty like this.
Scott Has Also Been Reminiscing
Sometimes when you have downtime you tend to think about the simpler moments in life, like when you were a kid. Maybe that’s why Scott has been looking back with some nostalgic throwback posts recently? Either way, he was one adorable baby.
He Celebrated Christmas With the Fam
It seems like the McGillivrays are big Christmas people, which is always fun when you’ve got kids. If only we could have a home tour to see how he and Sabrina decorate their house during the holiday season…

He’s Teaching His Girls How to Build
To be fair, their dream home project may be of a slighter smaller scale than the buildings Scott is used to working with. Still, everyone has to start somewhere, right? Besides, you’d be shocked at how intricate these “builds” can actually be.
His Eldest Just Turned 10
Time really does fly. We’ve watched Scott’s family grow over the years, so we’re having a slightly hard time accepting that Myah just turned 10 years old. “The decade flew by!” Scott wrote. “Since the day she was born, I have never been and never will be the same. Being a dad is by far my favourite thing and I am happy to say it only gets better. And the best is yet to come!”
He’s Been Brushing Up on His Culinary Skills
What’s sweeter than spending quality time with your kid and whipping up a yummy homecooked meal together? Not much. Although we do have to say, for someone who’s so handy with the power tools, we’re a little concerned about the way he’s holding that knife!
He’s Been Educating Fans on Social Media
Scott is fairly active on social media, where he shares tips and tricks with fans to help make all of their renovation and rental dreams come true. For example, in January he took some time to brief us all on the importance of a quality underlay, complete with a hands-on (sorry, feet-on?) demonstration.

He Hasn’t Forgotten About Your Vacation Rentals
Scott and his family may have been busy working on their new show recently, but Scott is also bringing us another season of Scott’s Vacation House Rules this year. In the meantime, there’s even more to celebrate: the show has been nominated for a Canadian Screen Award for the Best Lifestyle Program or Series.
He’s Working on Some New TV Projects
What’s better than one HGTV Canada star? How about two HGTV Canada stars? Scott and Bryan Baeumler are teaming for the upcoming competition series Renovation Resort, in which skilled teams will design and renovate one of four waterfront cabins in just six weeks. On the line? A serious cash prize. Scott is prepping now to film this summer, with all seven episodes expected to air sometime next year.
