Kitchens are the centre of our homes. With the continued trend of open-concept living, our cooking quarters have become an even more integral part of our living spaces. While it can be difficult to keep them clutter-free, it’s all the more important to do so when the space can be seen from all angles! Here are 10 easy (and overlooked) ways to organize your kitchen from the outset.

Only Kitchen Items in the Kitchen
First and foremost: you must do an inventory of your kitchen. Go through every drawer, cabinet and surface and remove any objects that don’t belong there. Often, kitchens become dumping grounds for keys, wallets, school bags and so forth. Carve out space to store these items elsewhere, and make sure only cooking tools live in the kitchen!
Drawer Organizers
Although having cutlery organizers is not a new concept, there are plenty more options when it comes to de-cluttering your drawers. There are drawer inserts for knives, spices and much more. This is an excellent way to corral smaller items and keep them hidden. See here for 15 more ways to maximize your narrow cooking space.
Garbage/Recycling Pull-Outs
Having a dedicated pull-out garbage and recycling bin is becoming standard in many new kitchen installations, but if you’re not looking to renovate, there are still many after-market options. Keeping garbage concealed and accessible is such an important factor in maintaining a tidy kitchen. Do a bit of research to find the best option for you!
Pan Dividers for Cabinets
There are many options available for adding pan dividers to your cabinets. This is an excellent way to organize your pans and avoid that frustrating moment of trying to find the right pot that always seems to be hiding at the bottom of the stack. This is a simple but very effective fix.
Keep Reusable Containers Handy
I use reusable containers every single day. They are so useful and help reduce the amount of waste in our home. For that reason, it’s important to store them somewhere that’s easily accessible. Store items you use on a regular basis in convenient locations to save yourself time and stress. Here are 10 genius product swaps for a less wasteful home.
Add Shelves Within Cabinets
Cabinets are often tall, and might only have one or two shelves within them. If that’s the case, then consider adding extra temporary shelving, which are sold in many stores. This will allow you to take advantage of all that wasted space for added storage.
Use Transparent Containers for Food
Using transparent containers for dry goods is an excellent way to organize your pantry and easily access the items you need. This will also reduce the number of bags and boxes you store in your cabinets, and will keep food fresh.
Don’t Stack Pots and Pans
It can be very handy to have your pots and pans lined up with their lids on, rather than having them stacked on top of one another. This way, you don’t have to spend time hunting for the right lid. Using an added shelf might help here if you don’t have the cabinet space.
Rolling Drawers
Installing rolling drawers means you can use all of your cabinetry space, and it allows you to easy retrieve the things you need. These can be installed into existing cabinetry and is a huge stress reliever.
Tiered Organizers
Using tiered organizers or small steps for storing food means you can see more of what you have in your pantry. This allows you to organize products easily, and reduces the amount of time spent shuffling through pantry items to track down that one misplaced product you’re certain you bought!
