On this first episode of HGTV’s latest show, Property Brothers: Forever Home, we see Jonathan and Drew turn a newlywed couple’s ho-hum bungalow into a colourful contemporary space. After years of daydreaming about a modern, functioning kitchen, Nora and Diego get just that – and then some – in this spectacular redesign.
Property Brothers: Forever Home airs Mondays at 9PM e/t on HGTV Canada or stream full episodes at HGTV.ca.
Mint Chocolate Chip
The mint-ice-cream green colour of the kitchen cabinets and build-in mini bar moves away from traditional (and safe) white but, thanks to the smaller space and choice of natural wood furnishings, it fits the modern mood perfectly.
Multi Layered
The sit-at kitchen island provides extra seating for guests when entertaining, as well as a casual spot for the whole family (Nora and Diego live with Diego’s parents and grandmother) to eat breakfast or share family recipes.
Into Focus
The TV mounted onto a graphic, blue-wallpapered feature wall in the living room creates a visual focal point in a space that was lacking direction and focus before.

Plan of Action
Dark, dingy and poorly laid out, this tired living room was not only in desperate need of some new furnishings and design flare but also a completely different floor plan to help give it better flow.
Lite Brite
Now, thanks to a set of sliding doors, white light-reflecting walls, and a chic tripod floor lamp tucked into the corner, the space is filled with light – giving the owners a comfortable space to spend time with extended family.
Time Capsule
The layout of the original kitchen completely cut off the cooking, dining and entertaining areas. Plus, the cabinets and appliances hadn’t been updated in decades.
In Our Sights
Now the chic dining area stands where the kitchen used to be and seamlessly flows into the updated kitchen and contemporary living room, opening up sightlines throughout the single-storey house.
Weed Eaters
Not only did the interior need a lot of TLC, but the exterior of this bungalow was neglected as well, with unfinished projects in the yard and weeds taking over everything.
Neighbourhood Watch
Painting the siding a soft grey instantly modernizes the exterior, while a new driveway, freshly laid sod, flowering bushes, paving stones and bark mulch all work together to up curb appeal.
Promises Kept
The square footage of this bungalow may be low but the style factor is now ultra-high. The Property Brothers truly delivered on their promise to create a comfortable modern family house the occupants could love for years to come.
