Marble, natural stone and porcelain – with veins as prominent as blue cheese, in the best way – have been hitting homes. We’re here for the drama! Galactic black to caramel brown and bold streaky white, we can’t decide which we like best. Read on for kitchens to inspire your next overhaul.
Eclectic Elegance
This exciting kitchen by Marla Nazzicone Design is no shrinking violet. Mixed materials make for a wildly interesting place to enjoy morning coffee. It’s like having your own swanky restaurant at home. The island stone has a leathered finish. Solid brass lines the front of the island and the hood, and there’s walnut cabinetry in the fray too.

Tranquil Sophistication
No one said the white kitchen went away – it just got edgier. In this minimalistic design, Caesarstone’s inky black quartz countertop is both seamless and sculptural. Classic black -part of the brand’s Dark Collection – is a heady foil to white cabinetry, beautifully balancing it and grounding it. Eschewing upper cabinets is perfect for those who dislike clutter (all of us, really).

A Fine Balance
Tucked inside a 1930s home, is this standout kitchen by Shauna Walton Design. The design merges marble (on the island and backsplash), quartz (topping the island), black cabinetry, antique brass sconces and a very cool linear light. A shelf elegantly skirts along the back wall to display treasures. Wood floors and stools soften the room.

Understated Luxury
Glorious gold-veined marble wraps the countertop and part of the wall in designer Katie Rowe’s Edwardian home. While this isn’t the loudest marble of the bunch, its markings are more prominent than the average kitchen’s. Dangly naked-bulb pendants and a fully loaded shelf inject a casual vibe.
A Slice of Greenery
Here’s a close-up of Katie Rowe’s sink situation. Isn’t that window perfectly placed? A garden view is exactly what you want when doing dishes.
Pantry Panache
And here’s the pantry area on the flipside. Dramatic marble looks incredible against grainy wood. It’s a much warmer pairing over white if you’re after richness and depth. Pottery and plants add a casual touch.
Heritage Twist
In this fantastic design, Montreal’s Mélanie Cherrier and Laurence Pons of Blanc Marine Living brought together marble, brick, black cabinetry and blond wood for an absolutely stunning result. We love the dramatic, heritage charm. The portrait with its own library light is a great touch.

Handsome Opulence
While the marble in this kitchen is conspicuous, it doesn’t overwhelm thanks to all that dark, elegant cabinetry. Inset lighting along the backsplash ensure the beautiful backsplash gets its due – and is also a functional addition to the space.

Splashy Style
This sizzling-hot kitchen feels both of the moment and yesteryear. Shaker cabinets, lashed in throwback green, straddle the old-school line, but splashy porcelain-look marble is very today. File under #stunning. The design is by You Should Stay Here, a boutique studio that designs vacation homes. Check out this kitchen in Tidy, Ont., in person!
Rich Details
Mixed materials are all the rage, as seen in this design by AyA Kitchens. The combo unites rich grey cabinetry, wood accents (that vent!) and brass hardware – as well as a smudged marble backsplash. Wood shelves bring a relaxed feel to the scene. Finally, a spot to rest all those mini plants you don’t know what to do with.

The Perfect Mix
In this enthralling kitchen built by Devco Custom Homes and designed by Denise Morrison Interiors, the marble seamlessly skirts over the hood vent, the backsplash and along the countertops. The use of darker marble on the island adds drama to the space, while wood shelving looks casually refined.
