In today’s housing market, not all prospective buyers care for a home coated in bright colours from top to bottom. Masters of Flip co-host Kortney Wilson, who usually opts for vibrant hues and bold redesigns, kept that in mind during one of her latest flips with husband Dave. The result is a beautiful, neutral house with high-end finishes that still features cheerful shades, which were employed strategically to make a brilliant first impression. Here’s an inside look.
Welcome Home
A bright and simple facade welcomes prospective buyers. The exterior is coated in neutral colours with white trim, while the porch is large and inviting thanks to the warm stained wood doors. With an assortment of shapely plants, the lush landscaping polishes off the look.
Grand Entrance
The home’s main entrance has all the finishings of a grand foyer thanks to warm hardwood floors and beautiful trim. A brilliant burnt orange couch and corresponding area rug lend definition and personality, while two colourful footstools double as seating. Meanwhile, the dark-hued doors add richness to the overall aesthetic.
Extra Accommodations
Off to one side of the entrance is this great sized room, which has a huge walk-in closet and can function as either an extra bedroom or an office. Kortney opted to furnish it as the latter for the open house, adding a textured area rug and an artist’s desk for emphasis. The colourful footstools, armchair and throw pillows draw the eye, while the neutral sofa and walls ground the look.
Country Kitchen
Kortney kept the kitchen pared-back in order to let the high-end finishes shine. The barnboard walls are brilliantly broken up with a pretty white backsplash strip above the stove, while the oversized island brings a modern and comforting feel to the space.
Storage Solutions
By only installing cabinetry on the lower half of these walls, the kitchen remains open and airy. This design decision allows visitors to take in the gorgeous barnboard. Minimal bursts of colour (seen in the rug and potted plants) help other elements – like the waterfall island and stainless-steel appliances – to really pop.
Fresh Corners
Most of the kitchen’s accents, such as this wooden tool box that doubles as a planter, maintain the neutral palette (with fresh herbs adding a dose of pretty colour). The result is a country-inspired kitchen with a fresh feel that allows many different prospective buyers to picture themselves living here.
Pretty Pantry
Just when you thought the kitchen didn’t boast enough storage, Kortney pulled back the door to showcase this gorgeous pantry, which Dave and Kortney both admitted is bigger than their first bedroom. There are plenty of cabinets here to store cooking staples, plus extra counter space for prep and storage.
Living in Colour
Kortney made up for the lack of colour in the kitchen by featuring plenty of cheerful accents in the living room, including the bright artwork and patchwork armchairs and footstool. The neutral layered area rugs and glass coffee table with sculpted legs help temper the look.
Alternating Views
On the other side of this space, Kortney maintained the neutral finishes seen throughout the home to create a natural flow from one room to another. The door (which leads to the back deck) boasts a stained trim that ties in with the kitchen’s barnboard, while the black trim on the windows matches the dark doors throughout.
Bohemian Inspired
Kortney was loose about her colour scheme in this house, so she went for a free-spirited look in the master bedroom, too. That meant soft yellows and greys with a few touches of gold and teal, which all work together to create an effortless, bohemian vibe.
Spa-Like Retreat
There are no doors leading to the master ensuite, which greets homeowners with a floating vanity. The piece echoes the wooden elements and strip of white tile seen in the kitchen, while the dual sinks add easy luxury and a spa-like zen.
Sculpted Relaxation
The striking strip of patterned tile continues on the other side of the vanity, where a large soaker tub is situated. It’s hard not to feel like you’re in a spa when this is where you get to bathe every night.
Oversized Shower
Potential homeowners didn’t even care that the glass doors to this oversized shower hadn’t come in time for the open house. The beautiful tiles are clean and minimal, but also mimic the pattern featured in the rest of the house. Meanwhile, the gold plated faucet and shower heads add luxe appeal.
Hidden Walk-In
Behind the ensuite sits this oversized walk-in closet that’s large enough for two, with hardwood running throughout and plenty of cubbies and nooks for keeping everything neat and organized.
Bonus Room
At the top of the stairs sits this common area that’s perfect for a family den, a playroom or an office area. Kortney went for a den and topped it off with fun features like these woven stools and colourful throws, but she kept the overall look streamlined and neutral with the taupe sectional and skid-inspired coffee table.
Bonus, Bonus Room
The real bonus in this space (for Dave anyhow) was Kortney’s addition of a small wet bar along one wall. It features everything an entertainer needs, from a wine fridge and cupboards to a striking backsplash and fully functioning sink.
Brilliant Bedrooms
Off to the side of the bonus room are two bedrooms. This one is decked out with pretty blue and green accents to give a more masculine but neutral feel. Kortney also kept the space bright thanks to the white furniture and accents.
Brilliant Bedrooms
In the other bedroom, Kortney created a more feminine feel by incorporating pinks and greys. She then crafted a brilliant desk area in the awkward window nook, showcasing how this is a perfect second or third bedroom for a growing family.
Shiny Bathroom
There’s nothing overly extravagant about this second-level bathroom, but it certainly boasts high-end finishes. The honeycomb floor tiles automatically catch the eye, while the large vanity with dual sinks makes it a functional space for two or more. The look is topped off with gold-plated fixtures that offer a glam feel. All in all, this home may have a predominately neutral palette, but with clever splashes of colour, it definitely knows how to stand out.
