When it comes to home appliances, new designs and features are continually released in order to meet consumers’ growing needs. Buyers today require appliances that not only simplify their lives but also look appealing at the same time. From completely touchless kitchen faucets to appliances that can knock two tasks off instead of one, appliances in 2025 will do a lot more than they previously could. Here’s a breakdown of what consumers are looking for in the coming year.

Minimalism Take Over
Though we’ve already seen minimalism take over in 2024, it’s a trend that will definitely continue in popularity. Concealed fridges and dishwashers, appliance garages and appliances and cabinetry without handles will all be huge in 2025. While concealed appliances have been around for a while, the ones of the future will be flush with cabinetry, offering a sleek and refined look. Appliance garages, AKA drawers that pull out and contain our smaller appliances, free up clutter on our counters and provide a simplistic aesthetic (which is what minimalism is all about). We’ll also see handles disappear from everything, so all it takes is a simple tap of your arm to open a fridge or kitchen cupboard.
2. Multifunctional Appliances
Appliances that are capable of doing more than one thing will be huge in the coming year as they free up coveted space in already packed kitchens. From ranges that feature air fryer capabilities to dishwashers that can do two loads at once, multitasking is what everyone’s after in 2025. One of our favourite picks for multitasking is the Miele Steam Combi Oven. Whether you’re tight on space or just want to use it as a companion in a larger kitchen, this appliance is your best bet. Homeowners can use it for steam cooking, baking, roasting and menu cooking, which allows for cooking multiple items simultaneously (no need to manually select the temperature or cooking duration!). Miele’s steam combi-oven stands out from the rest as it features a drain and pump to remove condensed steam. This results in easy clean-up and zero transfer of flavours among foods. Plus, Miele’s latest models are handleless so they’ll fit right in in your minimalist kitchen!
3. Smart Sinks
When it comes to the kitchen sink in 2025, things are about to get a lot more convenient. Imagine never having to touch your faucet? That’s now a reality thanks to Moen’s Smart Faucet with Motion Control. Homeowners can control the temperature and water flow of their tap simply by using hand motions, like swiping left for hot water and right for cold water. Voice-activated and app-based features are also available, so you can say things like “Baby Bottle” in order to fill a bottle with precisely 8 ounces of water at exactly 98 degrees. Plus, this faucet is available in a variety of styles and finishes — from modern to traditional — so choosing one based on your home’s aesthetic is easy.
4. Pops of Colour
While some might not be a fan of colour, for others, particularly younger shoppers, it’s a necessity when designing their dream kitchen. SMEG appliances make it easy to incorporate colour in the kitchen, with appliances ranging from big to small in all kinds of vibrant hues. Green is expected to be the most popular colour when it comes to appliances, with searches for “green SMEG fridges” and “SMEG pastel green” soaring. The SMEG Pastel Green Refrigerator pictured here boasts soft curves reminiscent of 1950’s retro design and can be paired with a matching tap, steam oven, coffeemaker and countless other small appliances. Guests will be green with envy when they see these!
5. Smaller Appliances
Already a trend in Europe where space is limited, smaller appliances are starting to catch on in North America, too. For those without big families or who live in a condo, smaller appliances just make sense. This trend piggybacks off the sustainable appliance trend — consumers are becoming more aware of their consumption and taking action. Smaller doesn’t necessarily translate to inferior when it comes to appliances. Miele’s compact 8KG W1 front-loading washing machine is a prime example. Loaded with advanced features like automatic detergent dispensing, smart home integration (so you can control your appliance from anywhere in your home) and a pre-iron function to reduce creasing, this washing machine makes cleaning clothes fast and efficient.
6. Induction Is In-Demand
While it might not be for everyone, a growing number of people are switching from gas stoves to induction because they’re concerned about the quality of their indoor air. While gas stoves are known to pollute indoor air, induction cooking doesn’t. Induction cooktops and ranges are also growing in popularity as they allow homeowners to heat things up much quicker than they otherwise could have, and allow for precise control of cooking temperatures. They’re also easier to clean up and are known to be energy-efficient, as they only create heat through the pots and pans on their surface. While some cooks swear by gas stoves and are reluctant to make the switch, something tells us we’ll see a spike in homeowners making the switch to induction in 2025 as indoor air quality becomes more of a hot topic for homeowners.
7. Stainless Steel Alternatives
In 2025, we’ll have a lot more options than stainless steel when it comes to our home appliances. Matte black appliances are currently making a splash and will continue to trend upward. Miele is one of the brands recognizing this trend as they recently launched their Matte Black appliance series. Customers can now purchase handleless built-in appliances and a dishwasher panel featuring the modern design-forward hue. “These appliances are a perfect blend of functionality and elegance, designed to meet the demands of the modern kitchen,” notes Ekaterina Dobrokhotova, Vice President of Marketing at Miele Canada. Move over stainless steel — matte black is about to take over!
8. Ultra-Quiet Appliances
It’s no surprise that consumers are looking for appliances that they can’t hear in 2025, especially when it comes to dishwashers and washing machines. Fisher and Paykel’s Integrated Double DishDrawer Dishwasher fits that bill perfectly, offering an appliance that’s not only incredibly quiet but makes cleaning a breeze, too. Two ergonomically-designed dishwashing drawers allow homeowners to either load one drawer while the other one is washing or run both at the same time. This machine even boasts a ‘knock-to-pause’ feature, which is perfect if you see a stray cup lying around the house.
9. Dedicated Coffee Spots
In 2025, homeowners want everything at their fingertips and that includes easy access to all of their favourite drinks. From state of the art coffee machines to access to filtered water and storage for frozen fruits to make smoothies, homeowners are asking for a lot from their beverage stations. When it comes to appliances, Miele is known for their countertop coffeemakers that can produce barista-style coffee without the hefty price tag of a coffee shop. We love the Miele CM 6360 125 Edition countertop coffee machine, as it’s convenient and saves time. Homeowners can remotely operate and monitor their machine using Wi-Fi, customize the quantity of coffee beans and water whenever they like and click a simple button in order to make two specialty coffees instead of one.
10. Sustainability Rules
Consumers are looking for appliances that are made from recycled materials or feature low water and energy usage as sustainability becomes a top priority for many. Miele dryers, for example, boast heat pump technology that save up to 60 per cent in energy consumption by reusing the heat it generates along with faster cycles at lower temperatures. This technology can save homeowners lots of money during the lifespan of their dryer. Moen also offers products that incorporate recycled materials. Their Verso showerhead, for instance, is made with recycled ocean plastic and is available in an Eco-Performance platform that reduces water usage by 40 percent compared to an industry-standard 2.5 gpm showerhead. Brands are definitely stepping up to the plate in 2025 when it comes to protecting our environment.
