Basements get a bad rap. Often, they’re relegated to being no more than storage or utility rooms, but they’re full of potential. For couple Sharon and Jason, their basement was suffering this same fate, in need of a basement overhaul. Their basement was drafty and overly compartmentalized, full to the brim thanks to poor storage. They wanted it to be a space that worked for them and their two pre-teen children, while also being comfortable for guests. That’s where Nicole Babb and Caffery Vanhorne of Styled stepped in. The Styled team got to work on this bespoke basement overhaul.

From Bland and Boring
Luckily, Sharon and Jason’s basement was structurally sound, despite the dark and scary vibes. With just a bit of demolition, and the removal of some mystery carpet on the walls and ceiling, the team had a blank slate to work with. From there, Nicole and Caffery could run wild, reworking the floor plan, adding storage, and insulating. Once that was done, it was design time.

…To Bright and Fabulous
Crisp whites will always brighten up a space, but wow factor takes more than that. To really impress, you need a little design diversity and contrast. By laying down that clean white base, it made a perfect backdrop for rich dark greens and blacks. The team used those two bold colours throughout the space to create continuity no matter which room you’re in. Now, this spooky spot is the coolest part of the house.
