As 2022 comes to a close, Pinterest released its ninth annual report on the upcoming trends, with interesting data from everything from food to dating and home decor. Looking back at last year’s Pinterest trend report (as well as the 2021 trend report and 2020 trend report), we’re not surprised to learn that 80 per cent of Pinterest’s report predictions came true for the past three years. From shopping for mushroom decor to renovating a new walk-in shower, read on for more ways to stay ahead of the curve as you plan for 2023.
The Herbal Apothecary Aesthetic
Now that we better understand the healing power of plants, it’s no surprise that Pinterest is predicting that the apothecary aesthetic is here to stay. Get ready to see more kitchens decorated with herbs and medicinal flowers, as well as beautiful tins of teas and bottled oils.

Colour of the Year
Pinterest is calling it: Terracotta, copper, and burnt sienna will be the most popular wedding colour trends for 2023. Since there was a 695 per cent increase in searches for “burnt orange wedding themes,” we predict these couples will incorporate this 70s-inspired colour into their upcoming home renovations in the new year.

Mush-Rooms
Mushrooms are having their moment in 2023. Pinterest has recently seen a 77 per cent increase in searches for “DIY mushroom decor” and a 35 per cent increase in “vintage mushroom decor.” To top it off, “fantasy mushroom art” is particularly popular, with a 170 per cent increase in Pinners searching for that perfect find.
Craft Corners
Pinterest predicts that 2023 will be the year of analogue hobbies. Especially popular among Boomers and Gen Z are crafts such as quilling and origami. In terms of making your home your own, expect to see more home transformations that include craft corners and craft rooms.
Happy Hour Stations
Staying on trend at your next dinner party has never been easier. Since more Pinners are searching for creative cocktail presentations, fancy mocktail bars and unique cocktail garnish ideas, a serve-yourself bar with non-alcoholic drink options is a fun and affordable way to entertain on a budget.
Pool Pawties
Not everyone has a dog, but if you do, chances are you love to celebrate your four-legged best! Pinterest reports a 490 per cent increase in DIY dog areas in the backyard and an 85 per cent increase in DIY dog pool ideas.
Another surprising Pinterest prediction? “Gen X and Boomers will host pet pool parties, complete with invitations, party favours and party decor,” the report states.
Maximalist Vintage Vibes
2023 will be the year of incorporating more antique furniture into your homes. “Boomers and Gen Z will find new ways to honour old stuff in their homes, combining vintage and inherited pieces with modern styles,” Pinterest reports.
Some of the most popular search terms include “how to mix modern and antique furniture,” as well as “vintage maximalist decor” and “antique room aesthetic.”
Funky & Vintage Home Decor
As we recently predicted, Pinterest confirms that kitschy home decor will be the next big thing in 2023.
Pinterest reports a 695 per cent increase in “funky home decor” compared to last year. According to the report, “maximalist self-expression will only continue to rise in the year ahead.”
Walk-In Showers
Keeping Canada’s aging population in mind, it’s no surprise that “walk-in showers” are one of the most popular bathroom renovation search terms in Pinterest’s 2023 trend prediction report.
In addition to walk-in showers being more accessible for people with disabilities, Pinterest explains, “spa-like showers will replace long soaks in the tub thanks to a global push towards water conservation and the need for increased floor space.”
Porch Paradise
Backyard transformations have been big in the past few years, but Pinterest predicts that 2023 will be the year of pretty front porches. From egg chairs to creative DIY planters, there are several ways to make your front porch your own, and we can’t wait to see how this home decor trend plays out.
Similarly, Pinners have also been recently searching for “gardens at the front of your home” as well as “foyer/entryway decor ideas” and “front door transformations.”
Eco-Friendly Backyards
Making your home more eco-friendly doesn’t have to be a pricey endeavour. Pinterest reports Boomers and Gen X prioritize water conservation, with more people searching for natural, sustainable solutions, like harvesting rainwater with beautiful rain barrels and designing drought-tolerant landscapes.

Milestone Birthday Celebrations
Now that social distancing is behind us, there are even more reasons to mark big milestone celebrations. According to the Pinterest report, 2023 will be the year for “epic bashes for major milestones, from 100th birthday parties to 50th anniversaries.” We’ll toast to that!
