Originally placed on the market for a whopping $100 million, Neverland Ranch was eventually reduced to a slightly more affordable $67 mil. It’s probably not a coincidence, then, that following the release of HBO’s documentary Leaving Neverland – featuring disturbing allegations about what took place within the former home of Michael Jackson – the price has now been reduced by more than half. The Disneyland-inspired compound that used to house a private amusement park and zoo is now available for $31 million.
Private Disneyland
Anyone who’s ever been to Disneyland will recognize where the inspiration came from for the entrance to the home, a replica of the Anaheim amusement park’s iconic entry gate.
Homage to the Magic Kingdom
Michael Jackson was reportedly so enamoured by Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom that he pulled out all the stops in order to recreate the entrance at the Santa Barbara ranch, which he dubbed Neverland Ranch in honour of his favourite Disney film, Peter Pan.

Climbing Tree
One of the more memorable scenes in 2003’s ABC documentary on Jackson featured the singer scampering up this tree, which has been slightly altered in order to facilitate tree-climbing.

Purchased By Jackson
Jackson purchased the property in 1988 for an undisclosed price, with estimates ranging between $19 to $30 million, and spent millions more to transform the property into his own private Disneyland.
The King of Pop’s Pool
Featured is the 14-foot-deep lagoon-style pool, situated behind one of the many structures on the 2,700-acre estate, located in Los Olivos in California’s Santa Ynez Valley.
Rocky Grotto
In addition to the main pool, there’s also a more private grotto, surrounded by rocks.
The Main House
The Tudor-style main house boasts 12,598 square feet of living space; according to the listing, the home was “fashioned after the majestic manors that line the coast of Normandy.”
Home Sweet Home
The main house was designed by architect Robert Altevers for the home’s original owner, real estate developer William Bone. Completed in 1977, Bone called his expansive estate Sycamore Valley Ranch (which is now its current moniker) – until it was purchased by Michael Jackson in 1988, who added his own unique features and renamed the place Neverland Ranch. According to the listing, the home was “crafted to perfection with exposed timber beams, handsome brick and stonework, five fireplaces, and 18th century French oak parquet flooring from two chateaus in France. The first floor master wing includes a private loft and two master baths, two walk-in cedar-lined closets, and a private outdoor garden. There are four additional bedrooms in the main residence.”
Bedroom
One of the numerous bedrooms in the estate, this one features exposed wood beams, rustic wood flooring and a castle-like stone wall, opening directly to the outside.
Bathroom
One of the home’s bathrooms, this one features wood cabinetry, a dual-sink vanity and a walk-in shower.
At the Movies
Michael Jackson rarely did things on a small scale, which is evident by the home’s 50-seat movie theatre, a massive screening room with plush theatre seating that puts most home theatres to shame. Featuring a theatre-grade projection and sound system, a private viewing balcony and a stage with trap doors, the movie theatre is housed in a separate building that also contained Jackson’s private dance studio.
Railroad
Another of the home’s perks is its own private railroad, with tracks circling throughout the property. Modelled after the railroad at Disneyland, Jackson reportedly loved riding the train around the property. There’s also a Disney-style train station with a kitchenette, loft and two fireplaces. In addition, the property also includes a 1,900-square-foot private fire station and administration building with three restrooms and a shower.
‘Train Station’
While the train that Jackson once rode around the grounds has been sold at auction, the tracks still remain, as does this gazebo-style “train station.”
Stunning View
A series of man-made ponds are located throughout the property, featuring water-spewing fountains and, in this case, waterfalls. Beyond that, check out the stunning view of the mountains in the distance.
Pond
The listing for the vast 2,700-acre property describes “extensively landscaped gardens” and this four-acre lake, complete with its own waterfall.
Stone Bridge
The main house is located between two large ponds, and accessed by this stone bridge that looks like it magically transported from a countryside in Europe.
Sycamore Trees
The estate’s original (and current) name, Sycamore Valley Ranch, was inspired by the large sycamore trees that populate the landscape, as the listing notes: “along with magnificent oaks, distinctive rolling hills, pastoral vistas and exquisite manicured grounds.”
Tennis Court
While the image of Michael Jackson playing tennis is admittedly tough to conjure up, he must have enjoyed the sport enough to install this regulation-sized court.
Pavilion
To the left of the tennis court is the 3,655-square-foot tennis pavilion/pool house, which has a loft, fireplace, laundry, dual bathrooms and an underground wine cellar/tasting area with wet bar.
Castle
Numerous special features such as this tiny castle dot the grounds, objects of interest to take in while riding the rails in Jackson’s private train.
Train Ride
The castle and train tracks are among the many additions made to the property during Jackson’s ownership.
Barn
One of several “multipurpose barns” on the property, presumably used to house animals in Jackson’s private zoo, this one was built to house the original owner’s Clydesdale horses. There’s also staff housing, offices and an administration building.
Rustic Retreat
Another of the numerous buildings on the property, this one faces a charming fountain.
Barbeque Area
“An expansive covered outdoor barbeque area is perfect for entertaining,” notes the listing.
Spectacular Ranch
“Having sold many of the largest ranches on the south coast in Santa Barbara County, I can easily say without hesitation that this is one of the more spectacular ranches in so many different ways,” the property’s realtor, Suzanne Perkins, tells Variety.
