Once owned by Princess Margaret and husband Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, the Plas Dinas country house in Wales is now on the market – and the price is shockingly affordable for a piece of royal real estate.
Plas Dinas
Located in northern Wales, the Plas Dinas country house came into the royal family through photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones, which was owned by his family for 200 years before becoming a favourite retreat for him and his wife, Princess Margaret.

Surprisingly Affordable
The home – which is currently serving as a hotel – is on the market, priced at approximately $645,000 Canadian, an amazingly affordable price to own a piece of royal history. There is, however, a catch as the property is being sold as freehold, and the owner would have to pay the somewhat hefty monthly rent of roughly $60,000/year in Canadian dollars.

Sold Furnished
The home is being sold with all its furnishings, with the website noting that the “family portraits, memorabilia and original furniture” will remain untouched from the days when Princess Margaret roamed the halls.
Original Artwork
Family portraits and other assorted historic artifacts will remain in the home, to be enjoyed by the new owner.
A Royal History
The home dates back to the mid-17th century, but also features numerous additions made during the Victorian era. Plas Dinas came into possession of the Armstrong-Jones family during the 19th century, through marriage, and was used as a country home for the family, who lived in London at the time.
A Royal Hotel
These days, Plas Dinas is a hotel featuring 10 unique bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom.
Margaret and Snowdon
Antony Armstrong-Jones, 1st Earl of Snowdon, used Plas Dinas as a base of operations when, in 1969, he was appointed to oversee the investiture ceremony for a young Prince Charles, who would be crowned Prince of Wales by his mother Queen Elizabeth II at the nearby Caernarfon Castle. As a result, Armstrong-Jones and Princess Margaret regularly spent their weekends here during that period.
Another Royal Connection
This guest room has a more contemporary feel, with its trio of clocks on the wall and chic, modern furnishings. According to reports, Plas Dinas was also visited by Prince William while he served as a search and rescue pilot in the Royal Air Force.
Victorian Charm
The home is steeped in history, with each of the hotel’s bedrooms offering a completely unique experience to guests.
Royal Photos
Lord Snowdon was a renowned photographer, and many of his photos are still on display at Plas Dinas.
Extensive Renovations
Despite the home’s 400-year history, the bathrooms have been fully modernized.
All Fixtures and Fittings
All fixtures and fittings are included in the sale, which would also presumably include this deep soaking tub in one of the guest bathrooms.
Royal Retreat
Throughout their 18-year marriage, Princess Margaret and Lord Snowden continued to spend weekends at Plas Dinas, with The Mirror reporting that locals nicknamed the princess “Maggie Bont.”
