The sledgehammers are out, the homes have been selected, and now all that’s left is for these four female renovators to Rock the Block. HGTV’s latest competition series, in which Leanne Ford (Restored by the Fords), Mina Starsiak Hawk (Good Bones), Jasmine Roth (Hidden Potential) and Alison Victoria (Windy City Rehab) face off to bring the most value to four identical California homes, kicks off Sunday Oct. 27 at 9
PM e/t. Before then, here’s how and why these winning women are ready to bring it.
Leanne’s White-on-White Style
We all know and love Leanne for her inimitable white-on-white style, a designing touch that adds a timeless flair to any and all properties she touches. “I believe in white paint, a lot. It’s such a powerful tool,” she says. “It’s easy, it’s simple, and it is timeless.”
Leanne’s Leadership Style is On-Point
There’s no denying that Leanne is an influential female leader-just ask any of her crew members, her clients, or even her (sometimes hesitant) co-worker brother, Steve, who is expected to make an appearance on the series. It’s no wonder her husband, Erik, even took her last name.
Renovating is Part of Leanne Ford’s DNA
Leanne was fixing up “properties” with her brother since she was a little girl. “We grew up and Steve was building forts in the basement [and] like out in the woods and I was sneaking over there and decorating them when he wasn’t around,” she says.
Mina is a Self-Taught Business owner
After Mina graduated from Indiana University in 2007, she got the reno bug and taught herself the tricks of the trade in order to fix up her first home, which she bought with the help of her mom (and future Good Bones TV co-star), Karen E. Laine. Eventually the pair parlayed those skills into the launch of their own company, Two Chicks and a Hammer, which they ran at first while maintaining full-time gigs as a respective lawyer and server. If that doesn’t scream dedication we don’t know what does.
Mins Brings a Personal Touch to Properties
One of the big criticisms of home renovations these days-especially in some smaller American towns-is gentrification. Mina is well-aware of the problem and ensures that whenever she and her mom do make a home more functional and efficient that it keeps in line with the neighbourhood’s overall vibe. We’re looking forward to the vibe she uncovers in Rock The Block.
Mina is a Kickass Working Mom
No one knows how to handle multiple projects at once like a mom-they’re the OG multitaskers. Mina officially joined that mom club following the 2018 birth of her son, Jack, and she’s been hustling ever since. Considering these ladies only have four weeks to overhaul their entire properties on Rock the Block, that balancing-act experience will certainly come in handy.
Jasmine Roth Has Always Had a Penchant for Building
This Hidden Potential host has held a variety of jobs, including working as a realtor while attending university. Ever since she was a little girl she had a knack for building. While growing up in Virginia she’d help her dad build tons of projects in the garage, including treehouses, sheds and furniture.
Jasmine is Always Adding Unique Touches
So how do you ensure that a home that looks the same as all the others on the outside is completely unique on the inside? If you’re Jasmine, that means adding custom finishes that give the home a distinct personality. In her own home that includes an adorable dog cave under the stairs, but she’s also a fan of full wall murals with custom photos and art. Whatever the design, Jasmine’s first rule of thumb is that it adds overall function.=
Marcia Brady is a Fan
We all know that Marcia is the perfect Brady Bunch child, so getting an endorsement from original portrayer Maureen McCormick is pretty high praise. That’s exactly what Jasmine got from the actress after they worked together on A Very Brady Renovation though-all the praise. McCormick is a long-time fan of many HGTV series, but she wasn’t quite as familiar with Jasmine’s work until the show. Now, she counts Hidden Potential as one of her new loves.
Alison Proved Herself Early in her Career
Sometimes you just know you’re on the path you’re meant to walk, and Alison Victoria (host of Windy City Rehab) certainly falls into that category. How else do you describe a person who was the youngest designer at the luxury custom home company Christopher Homes when she first started out? That experience allowed her to work with some pretty swanky clients. We know she’s going to bring a Hollywood flair to her California home on Rock the Block.
She Has an Eye for Luxury Furniture
While the goal on Rock the Block is to add the most overall value to the home, we all know the power of good staging. And who better to stage a room than someone with her very own luxury furniture line? No word on whether we’ll see any of the pieces from the Alison Victoria Collection on the show, but given the host’s experience we know she’ll pick out some great stuff for all her rooms.
Alison Victoria Knows How to Earn What she Wants
Sometimes you need to create your own opportunities, which is what Alison did when she became the first female host in the DIY Network’s Crashers franchise. Okay, to be fair Alison says the gig on Kitchen Crashers kind of landed in her lap, but if she didn’t decide to take a leap of faith and eventually leave the comfort of that gig to do something else, she probably would have stayed there indefinitely. Luckily for us she took that leap and now has landed on Rock The Block!
