Bryan Baeulmer and I are on the adventure of a lifetime, living in the Bahamas as we renovate Caerula Mar, a long-neglected resort on a remote island. It’s a jewel that needs more than a little polish! While we still call Canada home, we have made a new life within the palm trees and blue waters of the Bahamas. Here’s a quick peek at what life in the Caribbean has been like for our family.
Sarah Baeumler’s passion for design led her to join husband Bryan Baeumler on the front lines of his real estate and renovations business. Sarah and Bryan star in Island of Bryan which premieres Sunday, April 7 at 10 PM on HGTV Canada.
Island Life
Our weeks are busy, as we constantly work on the resort and prepare for the premiere of Island of Bryan. We are up against a tight deadline, as the grand opening of the resort is set for the spring. While most of our days are spent working hard – on site or in the office – we still make time to sit back and enjoy the island life.
Find out the 10 essentials Sarah Baeulmer couldn’t live without in the Bahamas.
Ocean Tranquility
One of our go-to activities to get away from the stress of the renovation is heading out on the boat. Bryan loves taking the boys out to fish. Whether it’s fishing for snappers, lobster or even the occasional shark, they always come back with a great story, or something to throw on the barbeque.
Baeumler Down!
Our family has developed a new-found love of the ocean. We spend as much time as we can on the water – and we have become quite the avid scuba divers. We love exploring underwater and discovering all the amazing marine life.

Adjusting to the Island Life
One of our big concerns before moving to the island was our children. There were many questions running through our minds. How would they adjust? Would they enjoy it? In the end, it was no surprise that they adjusted so gracefully. They were welcomed with open arms and kept their minds open to these new cultures and experiences. They are loving the island life.
Under-Sanding
There has been nothing more rewarding than watching my children fall in love with island life. They are learning so much and experiencing so many things that they wouldn’t have been able to experience in Canada.
A Resort to Remember
We are excited to welcome the public to the resort. Caerula Mar will be our vision come true. While I look back on all the work we have done and continue to do, I know that the end result will be priceless.
Clean Beach
I am loving every second of the island lifestyle. The ocean, the beach, the palm trees and the warm wind – there’s nothing that could quite match its serenity. It has been an extraordinary experience that we cannot wait to share on Island of Bryan.
