Deciding on the right furnishings and materials for a space can be difficult. We often focus on everything from the perfect wall hue to the texture of the drapery, but the small accents we include are just as important. While larger elements are integral to a well-planned room, incorporating decorative accents can bring a space to life. Since these smaller details are often last-minute additions and not accounted for in the initial design budget, I’ll opt for simple pieces that enliven a space without stealing the limelight. My favourite accessory? White vases. Here’s why!
Timeless Quality
Vases with bold patterns and daring colours can draw too much attention and therefore take away from the other design elements you spent so long deciding upon. Not to mention, they can go out of style quickly. We are often led by current trends and buy items that conform to these styles. This can mean that after a few years, they’ll begin to look dated and out of place. Instead, opt for simple and elegant pieces that can stand the test of time.

Distinct Shapes
I like to use ceramic vases that are influenced by ancient Greek design, or similar classic styles with distinctive shapes. Shapely white vases such as these inject character and intrigue into a space, making them design features themselves – yet at the same time, their muted shade means they will complement any room instead of overcrowding it.

They Work in Groups
Using various sized vases grouped together can also add an extra level of design appeal to your living space. You can use flowers or plants to accentuate the vases, although, in my opinion, this is not a necessity.
Accessibility
White vases can be found easily and are often very reasonably priced. This might help if you forgot to include decorative details in your budget. Whether you scour vintage shops or your favourite decor store, you’re sure to find a vase or two that enhance your home’s overall design.
I have used white vases in many spaces and haven’t had to replace them. I can easily move them about to change things up and add some colour with flowers or greenery. What can I say, I love white and the look of classic white vases. Give them a try and you just might feel the same!
