While some styles tend to come and go, there are certain current design trends that will have some longevity. From textile art pieces to dramatic lighting fixtures, here is a list of my favourite design trends that you can add to your home.

Wallpaper
As everyone knows: wallpaper is one of my favourite design trends. It can bring personality to a space, from elegant and chic to bold and exciting. Wallpaper doesn’t only enhance the overall look of a space, but it can also create a visual illusion that can help benefit the room. For example, in a small room, I’d suggest choosing wallpaper with a large pattern. It will not only give the small space a bold personality, it’ll also make the room look larger.

Textile Art
Textile art pieces are a current trend that I love. You can always find one to work in any room. Creative textile pieces can provide dimension and texture to the space. They add visual interest and work as a focal point. I always recommend experimenting with layering textures, as this will create a sense of contrast throughout the room.
Wood Features
One of my favourite and long-lasting trends is incorporating wooden features in a room. Wood always brings a sense of warmth and earthiness to a space. Whether it’s featured in the furniture or you’ve decided to bring it onto the walls, the organic textures of wood create depth and visual interest that can make a big statement.
Greenery
While there are many different types of greenery to choose from (from potted plants to smaller succulents), it can help liven up the look of any room. Not only does it bring a pop of colour, it brings a bit of freshness to the space and can also act as a focal point. Along with the greenery, the planters can also play a large role in the decor. A potted plant can be the perfect solution to brightening up a space.

Natural Stone
One design feature that is always timeless: adding natural stone. Whether it’s your kitchen countertops, backsplash, flooring or used as a feature in your decor, there is longevity and elegance in natural stone. Not only is it durable and long-lasting, but it also ranges in colour, style and pattern.
Dramatic Lighting
Everyone knows how I love dramatic lighting fixtures. From wall scones to pendant lighting to bedside lamps, nothing brings character and elegance into a room quick like statement lighting fixtures. Ensure it matches the overall look of the room you are adding it to. While these fixtures can act as a focal point, it is important to ensure that the functionality of it is practical. Invest in a fixture that will not only look great in the space, but also provide a sufficient amount of lighting.

Ceramics
One of my favourite current trends is stylish and minimalist ceramics. These pieces provide a mid-century, artisan feel to the space. Whether they are used for added greenery or to simply stand alone, these ceramics work as a focal point in any room. They can range in colour and size. The most popular colours to look out for are anything natural, including white, black or beige.
Open Shelving
is a current trend in design that not only allows for more storage, but also helps maximize the look of a space. Open shelving is often popular in the kitchen: instead of hiding away what’s in your cabinets, it is now time to show it all off. This can inspire creative, yet effective ways to reduce clutter, such as adding decorative pieces to the shelves that have style and function.
