Fresh Paint
If you’re looking for home renovation ideas on a budget, repainting can be a simple, yet effective way to make things feel fresh and new again. Trying out new colour in a room or simply refreshing the look of the existing colour can bring brightness and life into the space.

New Lighting
As far as renovation ideas for old homes go, one definite way to change up the look of a space is by adding new light fixtures. Consider what fixtures would best suit your space. If you are looking to light your bedroom and have ample wall space beside the headboard, consider adding wall sconces. These can be decorative and beneficial to the evening reader. You may also consider incorporating a bold ceiling fixture in a main room. This can provide excellent lighting from overhead, while also becoming a focal point in the room.

Exterior Upgrades
It can sometimes be difficult to find budget-friendly renovation ideas for old homes – however, focusing on the exterior is a good place to start. Area Rug
Adding an area rug can be the perfect way to change up the look of a space. While they are practical for comfort and warmth against wood or tiled floor, they can also be the focal point in a room. They’re also a great outlet to add pattern and colour into the space. Also, don’t go too small: the rule of thumb is to leave equal space surrounding the rug and to extend the rug under furniture in the room.
Accessories
Something as simple as accessorizing a surface can make a space feel refreshed. One of my favourite ways to accessorize a coffee table or side table is by using trays. Adding decorative pieces to the tray can bring character to the space and showcase the homeowner’s personality. Another favourite tabletop accessory of mine are books. It provides a sense of sophistication to the space and acts as a great talking point for visitors.
Bold Patterns and Colours
If you’re hoping to bring new life to a space, consider using bold prints and vibrant colours and patterns. Even within a neutral home, by adding accents with pops of colour – such as pillows or artwork – it’ll bring a sense of freshness and life back into your space.
