Blake bought the ugliest cottage on the street. Luckily, that street was the same one his best friend and vacation house expert, Scott McGillivray, had his own cottage on. With a little help from Debra Salmoni and friends, they set out to bring rustic chic to this rundown cliffside cabin.
See how the team overcame a bad roof, basement stumps, and even a little bit of witchcraft to bring Scott’s best friend the cliffside cabin of his dreams.

Someone ‘Blue It’
There was no shortage of issues when Scott first arrived. A massive laundry room ate up much of the footprint, a precarious tree was in the middle of the deck, and the bathroom had a terrible case of the blues. Blake, Scott, and some long-time friends wasted no time in starting their demo. The gang even managed to “rope” Debra into helping remove that pesky porch tree.

Keeping it Cottage
It was important for Blake to keep that cottage feeling. To do so Debra incorporated lots of rustic touches. By replacing the megalithic fireplace for a smaller wood stove, she maximized the main living space’s layout, while keeping that cozy wood burning feeling. Paired with consistent plaid accents, the cabin makes you feel like a sophisticated lumberjack.

Cozy on the Cliff
Now with 4 bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a second living space, the cottage had everything Blake could want. Despite all the awesomeness inside, this was still a space to enjoy the outdoors. With the open concept and full view of the water, this cottage is ready for Blake and guests to kick back and relax. Now he’s Blake by the lake, thanks to his best mate.
