When presented with a rundown heritage home in East Nashville, the Property Brothers turn on the charm – both on camera and in the modern renovation design.
Southern Charm
Couple Tom and TJ were looking for a modern sanctuary with historical charm in their new East Nashville home – and Jonathan and Drew delivered.
White Out
While most of the original kitchen and dining room was stripped back to the studs, the brothers kept the ornate coffered ceiling for texture, deciding to paint it out with a unifying white.
Chasing Waterfalls
The waterfall countertop colour was a point of contention between owners Tom and TJ, undulating between all-white quartz or marbled grey-veined quartz. They settled on white – and the results are sparkling.
Coffee Break
A coffee and tea nook complete with a built-in pot filler is just one of the many custom features that really make this comfortable Nashville home sing.
Wide Load
The generous width of this 100-plus-year-old home is one of the pluses that convinced the Property Brothers that they could turn this tired property into a palatial retreat.
Appliance Arts
With a renovation budget of US $230,000, shiny new appliances were always going to be a part of the Property Brothers house-wide revamp package.
Good Dogs
The new, lower pine cabinets hold a special custom-made surprise for the owners’ dogs Dudley and Luna – their own pull-out feeding station.
Sinking Feeling
A sleek apron sink fitted into the white-quartz waterfall island suits the owners’ mandate for sparse, modern lines throughout the whole house.
Bright Idea
Industrial-inspired chrome light fixtures emanate warm light throughout the white-on-white-on-white kitchen design, which helps to soften the monochromatic palette.
RSVP Right Now
Tom and TJ made it clear from the start that they wanted a bright, open-concept home perfect for entertaining – this spectacular, spacious dining/cooking space proves their goals were reached.
Buffalo Bills
Without a room to spare, the Property Brothers created a built-in wall unit as Tom and TJ’s “bill-paying station”. To the left is a new powder room with a blue-grey geometric tiled floor, which adds some subtle colour to the white walls throughout.
Getting Benched
An ash-blue built-in bench acts as an entryway landing pad for coats and shoes at the front of this now-fully-renovated arts-and-crafts home.
An Artist’s Eye
A neutral palette of soft silvers, greys and black for the living room furnishings allows the colours of Tom’s artwork – he’s an artist and a psychotherapist – to stand out.
Fire’s Burning
The double-sided fireplace didn’t function when the couple first bought their home for US $550K, but Jonathan got it working again and managed to keep the original brick and woodwork (but painted them white, of course).
The Artist’s Way
Nods to the Arts are seen in every room in this Nashville home as the owners are artists in their own right – TJ’s a filmmaker and a writer and Tom is an exhibiting painter.
Opposites Attract
The Property Brothers pulled together the opposing tastes of the clients – one likes modern, the other lots of character – with a masterful mix of classic and quirky hard and soft furnishings.
Gut Job
The original master bathroom was far from spa-like – and since that was one of Tom and TJ’s must-haves, the Property Brothers redid the room from top to bottom.
Spa State Of Mind
The glass-enclosed bathtub is the biggest they could fit in the space, while the shower features a rain-shower head, multiple wall jets, state of the art controls and a steamer.
The Deets
When it comes to creating a spa-inspired sanctuary, it’s the details – such as build-in toiletry shelves and a flip-down steaming seat – that take it from ordinary to out of this world.
Best Of Both
Refinishing the original pinewood floors is just one of the many ways the Property Brothers kept this century-old character home’s charm. But don’t be fooled – this Nashville property has all the modern conveniences, which were built to last for another 100 plus years.
