You don’t have to own a boat to love the breezy aquatic aesthetics of anchors, shiplap and navy blue. If you’re looking to add a nautical — not beachy — feel to your home like Tyler and Lindsay were in the season premiere of Property Brothers, Jonathan and Drew have a few ideas to share with you. See how they made a splash and incorporated these beautiful nautical elements into the couple’s new home. By Amber Dowling

Ahoy, Ahoy
What better way to make an entrance than with a beautiful statement wall? This wallpaper sets up the perfect nautical theme with its rich blue colour and circular pattern, while the silver mirror is reflective like waves on the water.
An Immediate Catch
Small accents, such as the twine basket and ball, lobster bag and even the ship underneath immediately work to establish the nautical theme without overdoing it.
Bathed in Blue
Rather than going for the dark nautical blue on the walls or via the curtains in this smaller space, the brothers kept the decor light and breezy, opting for larger statement pieces like this couch (complete with matching throw pillows, naturally).
Double Duty
Functional and pretty, this coffee table features a wood finish that you could easily picture on a ship, but with feminine finishing touches like this decorative basket.
Toning Down
The fireplace, which could easily be a statement piece in another home, instead blends into the wall with the white wash finish, keeping the space modern and clean. Now that’s what we call smooth sailing.
Shiplap, Shiplap, Shiplap
The homeowners were slightly obsessed with shiplap, but it worked out here on the mantle. In fact it’s almost a shame that the giant flatscreen hides that finishing touch.
Offsetting Colours
The sea can change in an instant, so it was important to incorporate several shades of blue into the design. These armchairs are the perfect counterbalance to the bolder couch, and give the whole room another layer of depth.
Peaceful Playing
Even the play area incorporated a nautical theme thanks to finishing touches like this checkered throw rug and these comfy cushions.
Treasure Chest
We love the textured finish on this chest, which of course is entirely functional as bonus storage space for toys, papers and other such knickknacks.
Corner Space
We also love this nautical basket for extra stuffed animals and toys — it’s a perfect accent to the beautiful room.
Lightweight Decor
These anchors could have easily dragged the room down. But when painted in this pretty colour and used sparingly as decoration, they just add to the overall ambiance.
Bunking Up
Nothing compliments a bay window better than a bench; we love that the blue-and-white theme continues with here with the cushion. Add in a couple of anchor throw pillows and it’s like the perfect bird’s nest. Except it’s not on an actual ship.
Comfy Corner
The sectional in this larger space compliments some of the darker accents such as the rug and curtains, while the art hanging on the wall ties in even more of that nautical goodness.
Coveted Kitchen
At first glance this updated kitchen doesn’t exactly look like a nautical haven, although the synthetic hardwood runs all the way through the main floor, keeping the space flowing.
Dishing it Out
Look a little closer however, and it’s accents like these curtains and the shiplap wall that tie it all together.
Backsplash Blues
Not to mention this gorgeous backsplash, which keeps the colour scheme going in a subtle and modern way.
Island Dreams
The centre island helps to create that open concept look, while the soft wood chairs and extended marble countertop add luxurious but nautical themed finishes.
Name Game
Of course having your boat’s new name on proud display never hurts when establishing that nautical theme.
Elegant Entertaining
The dining room table is complete with blue and white accents to polish off the look. Overhead, the interesting light fixture almost reminds us of the lighting in a boat’s cabin.
Bar Hopping
This wet bar is perfect for entertaining, and is the ideal place to whip up all of these nautical-themed drinks when guests are over. We’d certainly drop our anchor in this home for a while.
