From a plum-terrific purple to juicy greens and grown-up pink (yes pink!), here are the paints that will be enlivening – or mellowing – rooms this year. What are your never-fail colours?

Darkly Welcoming
We think Benjamin Moore’s Shadow is as alluring as late-night convos that you remember years later. Pair it with a gold-framed Old Masters painting, featuring black and reddish plum hues for a real royal treatment. Shadow works especially well in traditional or transitional spaces.
Grown-up Pink
Forget the bubblegum pinks that gave this colour a bad rap. Today’s blush pink hues are much more subtle, such as Benjamin Moore’s Porcelain, which makes for a soothing backdrop for a bedroom or guest room.
Everything’s Rosy
Pink can be a luxuriously grown-up colour and really offers a twist on the grey rooms we’ve been seeing for the past decade. We love everything that’s going on in this sumptuous space, from the velvet settee to the generous moulding and inset mirror that visually expands the room.

Here’s Pink Looking Fine Again
Art Deco rooms are on-trend like crazy. And pink, a common hue in the 1940s, is good too naturally. Give it a go. Just add a shapely silvery scalloped chair, Deco figures and a cute fluffy dog (everything looks better with a furry four-footer) and you’re in business.

Pale Shelter
A pouf of flowers does the talking in this easy-on-the-eyes room that features a paint colour we think is the perfect neutral: Benjamin Moore’s Chalk White. (Note that the bouquet is purple, pink and russet, which are popular picks for 2017.)
Lulling Green
Similar to Benjamin Moore’s Chalk White, the walls shown here have a creamy tinge, while the panelling is a strong old-timey green. This combo is ideal in an antiquated bathroom that is also very luxe thanks to the marble-topped surround.

Iceberg is Hot
Benjamin Moore’s Iceberg isn’t frosty at all. It’s a soft, lulling blue that makes us long for spring. So nice in a bedroom paired with stately black sconces and a French provincial gold bed that’s worlds away from those nursery rooms. Like pink, blue has grown up a lot.
Begging for Blue
And if you needed more convincing that blue has in fact grown up, check out this glorious entrance way done up in Benjamin Moore’s Smoke. It’s light and airy, yet also warm and totally inviting for all those impending guests.
Kitchen Helper
Benjamin Moore’s Wish paint colour adds warmth to this gorgeous kitchen. It’s the perfect hue for when you want a little something something that doesn’t call too much attention to itself. In this case, the exposed wood beams and hunky pedestal table take the spotlight and Wish beautifully plays the role of supporting actor.
Going Grey
Greyish taupe sets the mood in this living room. The new greys for 2017 are somewhat muddier and warmer than what we saw in 2016. Pair greys with wood, rattan and gold for an organic feel.

French Flair
In this utterly gorgeous modern kitchen, the elements of the refurbished building – not the paint colour – are the standouts. From the herringbone floors to the glitzy basket chandelier, we are smitten. (If the designer had gone too vibrant on the walls, the architectural finishes and accessories would have been lost. Which goes to show neutrals are sometimes knockouts.)

Hey, Jade (Take a Sad Room and Make it Better)
Each year Behr releases its Colour Currents for 2017. These 20 limited-edition colours that you can pick up at Home Depot are super exciting this year. We love this grassy green called Jade Dragon because it’s an ideal foil against the caramel of the Spanish stools. Add black and white for a perfect palette.
Feeling Blue (and Green)
A splashy array of on-trend hues by Behr for 2017 is seen in this dining room, where varying shades of blue, green and cream make for a decidedly dynamic space. Note that the paint is carried to the doors, mouldings and floors for added zip.
Into the Deep
Shades On, the dramatic grey seen here by Behr, envelops this bedroom making the burnished-copper frame and brass accessories really sing. Paint is one of the easiest ways to add dimension to a space. Step away from the white for once and give it a chance – you’ll see.
