Having outgrown their condo, Jessie and Joe were looking for their forever home in Nashville. So, Drew found them a house with history and Jonathan transformed it into a beautiful traditional-meets-contemporary home, perfect for the couple’s growing family (which includes a set of twins!).
Room to Grow
Jessie and Joe had just bought their 2-bedroom condo when they found out they were going to have twins. So effectively, they had outgrown their place before they had even moved in.
The Bid Is In
Finding a house with ample square footage was at the top of their list. Luckily, Drew got a lead on a 3,500-sq.-ft. brick colonial – and brokered an accepted offer US $29K below asking.
Put Down Roots
Joe, who worked with helicopters in the US Marines for nine years, was really looking forward to being in one place for a long while and just staying put.
Adult Friendly
After living in a small, toddler-toy filled condo for two years, having an area just for adults was important to this couple.
Post It
Due to structural issues, Jessie and Joe had to keep two posts in the main living room, but Jonathan managed to make them work with them seamlessly flow of the space.
Have a Seat
Having moved around so much, all of their furniture was hand-me-downs, so being able to pick out brand-new “adult” furnishing was a real thrill for this hardworking couple.
Playing House
When Joe first walked into the living room after Jonathan’s 7-week renovation, he was blown away: “We have a grownup house with adult space that doesn’t have to be closed up.”
Keep Calm
The renovations weren’t without their hiccups as Jonathan found more and more issues the deeper they went – but Joe and Jessie took them in stride and found reasonable solutions.
Family Room
Having a large, functional kitchen where family and friends could come and spend time was really important to this loving couple.
Family Ties
Needing a lot of room for when the whole family would be over, Jonathan doubled the footprint of the kitchen, which also allowed for fun extras such as a bar and built-in coat closet.
Charmed, I’m Sure
The bar area has a wine fridge, open shelving and a quartz countertop, but it’s the vintage touches, such as the wooden theatre chairs, that give this kitchen its rustic charm.
Barn Crasher
Jessie took a lot of convincing to go for a colonial house when she preferred the farmhouse style. Adding a sliding barn door to the pantry give the space that country vide.
Setting Goals
The litmus test for Jessie and Joe and the success of their new home was when they brought family over and it would feel like their home too.
Open Sesame
Continuing with Jessie’s farmhouse inspiration for the design, open shelves in the kitchen give the space a casual, country feel.
Go with the Flow
After having such limited space for so long, having plenty of room for hosting was also a must for Jessie and Joe. The flow from the kitchen to the dining room and onto the living room is ideal.
Connect Four
Since the original house was in need of so many renovations, it took some time for Jessie and Joe to connect with the house but once they did they were all in.
Keep it Together
With two toddling twins running around the place, any area that can help with organizing coats and shoes is a plus for this busy couple
Child’s Play
Not to be left out of the renovation fun, twins Cora and Carson got their own special playroom out of the Property Brothers deal too.
Heads or Tails
Faux stuffy taxidermy adds a fun, playful element to the large sunroom-cum-kids’-space off the kitchen.
Dual Purpose
While the Cora and Carson play in their dedicated hangout, Joe and Jessie can chill on the couch or make use of the crafting/gardening station against the wall.
