We can’t promise your kids won’t occasionally protest sharing a space, but we can promise you’ll find lots of design inspiration in these colourful images. Better yet? Your little ones will feel just as inspired, too.
Climb Time
The flamboyant use of prints – on the wallpaper, drapes, ottomans and toss cushions – make for a highly inviting shared kids’ room. And of course, who could ignore the star attraction? That gnarled ladder fashioned out of a tree will appeal to the little tree climbers in your life. See more of this jaw-dropping space here!
Into the Blue
Most of us feel more comfortable using daring colours in kids’ rooms. A lashing of cobalt provides a provocative backdrop to snazzy single beds. The lilac and turquoise bedding invites another punch of colour – and no fighting over the nightstand: a wide dresser with twin lamps means room for all.
Stripe Hype
HGTV hosts and real-life husband and wife Bryan and Sarah Baeumler outdid themselves in their kids’ room on House of Bryan, custom-making twin trundle beds in beguiling stripes that feel decidedly grown-up. The ceramic elephant stools standing duty are a whimsical touch, while the shag rug keeps toesies cozy underfoot.
Coastal Flair
A boys’ room, complete with a bucket for passing treasures between siblings, is simply irresistible. There’s so much spunky style here that says “cottage” (it’s from an episode of Sarah’s Cottage, after all) – from the anchors on the pillows to the two-tone panelling and knotty pine floors. P.S. Steal that chalkboard idea!
Flower Power
Fabric reigns in this sweet room, where an explosion of pastels on the headboards beguile. The rule here: keep the backdrop neutral and then go to town on central pieces. Note the subtle difference in piping on the beds, which lends a quirky touch, as well as the wee coordinating bench by the window – even stuffed toys need their rest.
Pretty in Pastel
Pick a palette and stick with it for lovely results, like Sarah Richardson did in this girls’ room that feels quite grown-up. Choose matching bedding and piles of pillows, coordinating drapes, fun circular rugs that create a polka-dot effect and two tones on the walls.
Texturally Terrific
Rattan makes for creative headboards in this simple yet stylish sibling space that’s anchored by a beautiful chevron rug.
The Butterfly Effect
Adorably inviting, this little girls’ room comes together with a simple white bunk bed, coral-pink patterned sheets and accessories, a garland of butterflies and a decal displaying birds on a branch.
Think Lengthwise
Short on space? Pull a Sarah Richardson by placing two beds lengthwise against a wall. This configuration makes for an ideal hang-out spot for reading and just plain chilling out. Installing open shelving above is a great space-saver, too.
