Drew and Jonathan Scott have designed hundreds of kitchens over the years: from Property Brothers to their new show Forever Home (premiering this summer) to their own homes. So, they have a handle on what works well and what doesn’t. Our favourite twins share what they can’t do without in a kitchen.
Multiple Ovens
“I like having multiple ovens,” says Jonathan. “Because you gotta’ be baking them cookies or pie while you’re making dinner as well. And that takes a little bit longer.” Save us some, Jonathan.
Quartz Countertops
The Scott brothers reveal that every kitchen needs to have “easy maintenance countertops for cleaning.” They elaborate: “Quartz countertops with an undermount sink: super easy to clean.”
Check out these 25 show-stopping kitchen islands you’ll want to replicate.
Vent Hood
Drew and Jonathan say that having a powerful vent hood is very important in kitchen design. “We believe in open concept, but that shouldn’t mean your cooking smells take over the whole house.”
Here are 15 range hood design ideas that are anything but eyesores.
Good Lighting
“If you want to be in the kitchen and utilize it well, you need really good lighting,” Drew and Jonathan share.
Pantry Snacks
“We also like to have a little something extra in the pantry for guests,” the brothers reveal. “We love it when family and friends pop over on a whim. So, we always want to be prepared to entertain.”
Smart Layout
“I can’t stand when people renovate a kitchen, tearing off the old and putting in the new cabinets and countertops with a terrible layout,” the brothers share.
Function
Function is one of the most important things Drew and Jonathan say must be in every kitchen. “The first thing you should always think about is the flow; and how a family would use the space. Then think about the aesthetic you want to add.”
